Is is a big deal to switch to Firefox? Will it mess up software already installed on your computer?

I started using it when I switched to a MacBook (Safari just wasn't working for me) and liked it so well that I use it on my PC, too. It doesn't seem to freeze up like IE/Safari, and it automatically blocks pop-ups and questionable sites. I like the tabs that are offered instead of new windows--easier to get around.

Since I've been using it, I've had fewer issues across the board.

I'm a fairly recent convert to Firefox (a little over a year). The "techies" can probably give you better reasons than I can. But from personal experience I can say that I don't have as many pop-ups or lock-ups when using Firefox. The only drawback that I've seen is there are a few (maybe 2 or 3) sites that don't support the open source browser. For those few that I have to use, because of business, I just open IE and use it for those sites that haven't joined the 21st century.

I have noticed a HUGE difference from Fox and IE.
The Fox is faster and has less adds and poppups.
IE is just less compatable..
It won't be any problem to switch, you can even keep IE and Fox...

Easy and fast to switch, no software issues that I know if. If you have bookmarks on IE, they will transfer to Firefox. Doesn't get much more user-friendly than that!

As long as you don't delete anything from Explorer to use Firefox you can add as many browsers as you want to use. If you want it to be your default browser you will have reset that setting.

But adding it will not affect anything.

i second that ...

one thing i like is for example when the board was hacked a few weeks ago, firefox caught the bug, didn't even make it to the antivirus stuff. if i had been using explorer, i would probably still be dealing with the issue.

another thing, very seldom does the computer lock up on me anymore :D

I have a proprietary software system on my laptop. I access it through by logging on to a central server. Think it will screw that up?

Use your alternating spangler.

I wouldn't think so...SJ and I have been sneaking around (not together, of course) loading it on public library computers.

It's easy to uninstall, for what it's worth. But you aren't going to want to!

With all the hubbub about Firefox and my updated IE driving me crazy with freeze ups, I decided to download Firefox. It was quick and my favorites transferred quickly. The only thing I didn't like was the font. I tried changing it, but can not find one I like that is easy to read.
Can anyone suggest one? :idontno:

After reading in the paper today that Netscape was going to be shut down I decided to download it too. So far it looks just like Netscape and all my bookmarks transferred and securities, etc. I Like It. The only thing so far that is not working is the back button on my laser mouse. Not sure how to fix that.

You can also download an extension that will allow you to access your bookmarks from other computers. The tabs in Firefox are really useful and there are also some fun themes you can download. Google Firefox add ons and see all that you can download with it.

I'm still using IE through AOL with no lock ups, pop ups or other problems. However, I think I'm the only person on the planet that has never had a problem with AOL. Mutant Freak that I am.

When I'm at work, (tech analyst)walking customers through our website, or downloading applications, folks have to go through IE, if they go through FireFox, Safari or Netscape, they can't download the pages, lender agreements, applications, or all the truth and lending crap.

Firefox is apparently great, but sometimes too good, as it won't let you access certain legitamate functions.

But what do I know. I'm the compooter geenyus that got locked out of Sowal last year, couldn't log in cause I didn't hit the "remember me" button....:funn::bang::roll:

Firefox picks up fewer "problems", and is faster. It will not be compatible with some business apps, but is the better everyday surfer. Use IE for your business, but Firefox for fun. Don't forget to use the firefox adobe pdf plug-in or you'll experience freezeups. The plug-in is at the Firefox site.....so simple
