Just spoke to the hubby that had driven past and he said it was all cordoned off but that it looked like the sheriffs car had pulled across the median and got t-boned.

Fuzz spoke to the officer's daddy a few minutes ago, and the officer will be OK. A few stiches and a bad sprain. Not real sure how it happened, other than he was responding to backup another officer and lost control of the car.
It would probably be out of line to release the officer's name here (I'm sure there will be a press release), but he is a great young man. Grew up in Freeport, served several tours in Iraq with the army, and is married with a precious little girl. I'm very relieved he will be okay physically. I just hope all will be okay jobwise too.

My daughter and husband witnessed the accident this morning. The officer's car was going westbound and seemed to go into the median a bit, then lost control of the car and flipped several times into the median area. A wheel came off. My husband and another officer who was in a second deputy's car pulled out the driver and he got up and walked away. He had a gash on his head, but seemed in good shape otherwise. No other cars were involved.
Darlene is my middle name, not my nickname
I am so glad to know that he is ok.

I saw the car and concur w/ your hubby. SO Glad the officer is OK... from the looks of the car it's a miracle that he was able to walk away.

He rolled a car and a wheel fell off? WTF?

Update from FHP: his right rear tire blew as he was decelerating (the call had been downgraded). Found a nail in the tire.
Nails in tires are not unusual around here.
He is VERY lucky.

Hubby just got home and said he cant believe the guy even got out of the car. He said there were car parts, lights, and more paperwork than you could imagine strewn all down the highway.

I am glad he is OK. "Accidents can happen, we are all only hit and run."

Spoke to his mom-in-law yesterday evening...another detail that Blake should be commended for - when the tire blew, it pulled him into the median, and he realized he was heading for oncoming traffic. He pulled to the right as hard as he could, which began the spinning and flipping.
If I had been driving, I would have simply been hanging on for dear life, screaming. But he was level-headed (guess Iraq will do that to you) enough to try not to go into the eastbound lanes.
He was amazed to find himself hanging upside down, still alive.
And, fortunately, his wife and parents received word that he was OK before leaving for Sacred Heart, as they (each separately) had to drive by the car on the way there.

Thank goodness!
Just curious, why would he have to worry about his job now? Is wrecking a :nono1:?

Although I have not yet had the honor to meet this officer, I do know of his outstanding service to our Country in Iraq. He is a great addition to the department. Thank God he is OK. Thank you for your service young man.

That sequence of events makes sense and corresponds to what my daughter saw. Since she was in our car with my husband and a few other kids going to school in the other direction, I'm thankful for his quick action and that he is going to be fine. My daughter said the car flipped 4-5 times and it was a sight to see. When my husband looked over all he could see was the brown dust from the car flipping on the median dirt. It's a miracle the officer is ok.

Thank God for your husband helping too!

I wonder if it will be on one of those cop reality shows...do they have a camera in the squad cars?

I wonder if this was one of the, alledged to be, poorly maintained "spare patrol cars" that deputies are forced to use when their newer, better conditioned vehicles are in for maintenance. The tires were mostlikely the cause. Is the FHP investigating???

No, I just know that it has been an on-going problem with the tire wear on the vehicles. Especially on the spare car, that it appears the officer was driving. No conspiracy, just a question. Know the answer?
