Nice Day Trip

Today we went to the Florida Cavern State Park. It was a nice drive and a wonderful tour. Little IBD loved it. We even got to see 2 baby cave crickets and 2 bats. The bats were cute, believe it or not.
If you have not been you should take time to go. The park also offers walking trails, equestrian trails, canoeing, camping, swimming. One cool feature of the park is one point where the Chipola river actually disapears under the ground and pops back out further down.

Anyone wanna go camping???:wave:

I wonder if this is the same place Toots told me about?
I think bats are cute too even though I am no fan of rodents, but bats don't bother me in the least. What are cave crickets?

A cave cricket is a cricket that lives in a cave. That is about all i know. :biggrin:

We went to this park years ago on a trip down to SoWal. If I remember, there are boardwalks and sinkholes, maybe? It's a really pretty park. I'd like to do some more exploring just like you. Florida's the coolest state in terms of natural beauty, and hardly anyone takes the trouble to find it. Ponce de Leon Springs is another park I want to see. We've been to Ginnie Springs but that's it.

Looks like a beautiful place. There are some beautiful parks all around us. Am I the only ones that watches beach tv all the time and always wants to go to the parks they are talking about?

If anyone is there during spring break lets plan a day trip. We are there March 13-23rd Easter Sunday. IBD, Tootsie, Beachmom & Jdarg I will have my 4 year old niece with me......please help!

Thanks again for coming to Shades last night, even after your full day!

These pics are great. I went there a dozen years ago when I moved up here and really like it. I need to go again and explore the camping kayaking aspect of it. I'm only about 45 minutes away. I'm going to go check out that link. Thanks for posting!

These are cave crickets. They dwell in basements also like mine as it is underground. I can bring you all the cave crickets you want. BTW, they jump really high, like as high as your shoulder. :lol:

Lovely pics IBD.

Just a travel tip, if it has been raining alot don't bother driving up as the caves will be closed due to flooding. There are also other caves through out the park, but most are covered with grates and pad locked. I believe they still do an annual day where they open them.
