"While test results are classified and rarely leak out, those that have been disclosed typically don't inspire confidence. In tests conducted in 2006 and disclosed to USA Today last year, investigators successfully smuggled 75 percent of fake bombs through checkpoints at Los Angeles International Airport, 60 percent through Chicago's O'Hare International Airport and 20 percent at San Francisco International Airport."
Add that to the porous Canadian/Mexican borders and only 5% of port shipping truly inspected....makes me feel comfy....
Almost 7 years after 9/11 and this is the best we can do?

The amount of pork that's been thrown around in the name of homeland security is immense. Sucks that it's BS.

According to everyone, it is only a matter of time, but have we been attacked again yet? Either we're awfully damned lucky or we must be doing something right. But then all you "intelligent and presidential experts" on this board have THE information to show otherwise. I don't disagree we will be attacked again. It is inevitable when our media gives those trying to destroy us and our way of life every classified piece of information they can lay their hands on. Man, its a good thing a lot of you were not around during the second World War. We would have lost it for sure.

I watched video of an agent walk through a TSA checkpoint in Tampa with a fake bomb strapped to his waist. He was even patted down and nothing was detected. I fear it is only a matter of time before something bad happens again. There may be a selection bias in these studies as the agent I saw going through security looked like a joe sixpack WASP and someone who looks middle eastern may get more scrutiny, but I don't know. Still, flying is safer than your average spin down HWY 98 with cellphone chating land yacht drivers.

Andy,
I didn't know that it was the media that was watching our airports, ports and borders....I just thought that was the responsibility of the government. My point is that very LITTLE has been accomplished in the past 6+ years to protect the borders, ports and airports. They are very porous. I travel a lot and see it weekly in the airports. Screeners only paying partial attention.....Last month I was at the Orlando airport when the power was lost at the screeners/scanners. They didn't even have a Backup power source! They spent the next hour half-ass using hand scanners and hand searching the luggage. Absolutely ridiculous.
BTW...I didn't notice the Evil Media even reporting this for the Evil Axis to pick up on.....

I am not saying a lot of improvements can't be made, I'm just saying as far as security and information is concerned, we are extremely lax in what we allow the general public to know. We aren't all good, loyal Americans, you know. In fairness, since I no longer travel a lot, I am more interested in what we tell our enemies, perceived or otherwise, than I am in airport security which I personally think is totally overblown, anyway. A little profiling would go along way if it wasn't so much against our "freedoms". BTW, you didn't answer the question, "Have we been attacked, yet". To reiterate, maybe we are doing something you don't know about that must be right.

according to the current president, we have foiled attempted attacks since Sept. 11th.

AND...we foiled attempted attacks prior to Sept. 11th.....doesn't mean we are any safer...

Andy,
I sat next to a former Marine on a flight from Palm Springs to Chicago this past Friday. I ask him alot of questions about the war and the Presidential candidates. Here are the highlights of what he said.
The war was totally mismanaged by Don Rumsfeld. General Petraus is doing a great job - the surge is working. He can not understand why we have yet to secure our borders. For this reason we will be attacked again - it is not a matter of if but when. He said that a withdrawl from Iraq would be disatrous - resulting in a terrorist state that leave us even more vulnerable. His most important issue is national security and for this reason he is voting for John McCain.
