Created to take a stand against the greatest threat our planet has ever faced, Earth Hour uses the simple action of turning off the lights for one hour to deliver a powerful message about the need for action on global warming.

This simple act has captured the hearts and minds of people all over the world. As a result, at 8pm on the 29 March, 2008 millions of people in some of the world’s major capital cities, including Copenhagen, Toronto, Chicago, Melbourne, Brisbane, Tel Aviv and Manila will unite and switch off for Earth Hour.

mar 29, 8pm. sounds like an such an easy thing to do, and a great gesture to show how we can make a difference.

also sounds like a wonderful excuse for a candlelit dinner partay, huh? I know a few birthdays right around this date too. birthday/earth hour/dinner partay...

I am all for lights out after I paid the $360 light bill last month, but 'she who must illuminate Seacrest Beach' might not like the plan:biggrin:

Is this just 8pm in your time zone or is there a certain time zone that we all need to watch?

It's your own time zone. Please go to the site to watch the video. Major cities and companies are participating. EarthHour is tomorrow night.

:bang: Dang it! I even got up early to post this info. You guys beat me to it. I was hoping it would not only be good for the world, but earn me some rep points

Seriously, I think this is really cool and my kids are getting into it. They have already planned a neighborhood game of capture the flag that begins at 8 pm.

We had our own little private Earthour in the wee hours of the morning. Storm came, power went off...for 3 hours!
I love this idea though...

We made it, but it was a struggle, my husband said next year the WWF should take into account that it was the NCAA Tournament. TV back on at 9:01. :floor:
