Clinton and McCain - alienating your base

Looks like it is highly probable that in next week's Super Tuesday, Clinton and McCain may win and therefore become defacto the nominees (even though I am personally going to keep up hopes that Obama will trounce her!) - but what does it mean and what does it say about our voting system that 2 nominees that have severely turned OFF much of their base may become the nominees?????

And they agree on so many issues. How in the world do you select a candidate when they are so similar? I heard on the radio that historically whenever the Republican is very similar to the Democrat, the Dem wins. Maybe this country is on the road to a woman President. But with her negatives polling so high, I am guessing it is going to just be four years of grumbling from the right. At least the talk radio hosts will have plenty to do.

Can you tell me what issues they agree on? I wonder if McCain is getting the nod from the Republicans because they think he has a better chance of defeating either Clinton/Obama even though Mitt Romney seems to be the true conservative.

One of the biggest that is causing a problem with the base is amnesty for illegal immigrants.

Thanks - I am going to research both of their positions on this to see how they are the same or different.

Yes, if Hillary becomes President, O'Really, Rush, Hannity, and Bortz, and all the other conservative chit chatters have perfect job security, and they will become richer, and much higher ratings than ever! Disenfranchised, Nascar lovin,' arms bearing, older white males unite !!

I'm interested to hear your take on why Air America flopped during what should be (by your logic) fertile times for anti-White House occupant talk radio. :idontno:

It means we need a viable third party. I see 2 lousy choices emerging, with the lesser of 2 evils scenario being served up cold again. Who's hungry?

Viable is the operative word. Third parties in the past have just ended up hurting one side or the other - Ralph Nader, Ross Perot.

It was not hate mongering and fire fanning like Rush et al.

What if Bloomberg jumps in as the 3rd party candidate? What are y'all hearing?

I thought that it was that McCain refused to pander to the evangelicals.

Good point, they started to bore me too. I am now just a Keith Olberman MSNBC junkie. He is totally anti-Bush/Bush White House with no opposing views allowed. His rating have soared since Katrina--O'Really still commands a larger audience though at the same. He is the polar opposite of Bill O' Really. He is the man!

That may be part of the reason, but McCain's amnesty, McCain/Feingold, and his desire to raise taxes are the larger reasons why the conservatives don't like McCain.

I think the bases of both parties have become ?too far.? Too far left and too far right. That?s why I think the best candidates are those who alienate much of the base.

I find Olberman and O'Reilly to both be pretty much unwatchable. I love talk radio and tried to listen to Air America in New Orleans;I think that most of the hosts were dreadful talent wise. I liked Jerry Springer, Franken was sometimes OK but the rest were bad.

Yes! I thought this in 2000 and 2004, but all the talking heads wanted to talk about was red state blue state blah blah blah.

You are probably right, I mean correct, and that is the reason why we don't get many choices in the middle who are unique.

Olbermann is out there but he is very smart and truly has a lyrical writing style. I don't watch him, but I respect him, and his rants can be quite artistic. :D

try to listen to ireilly on occasion but always commercials, commercials, commercials. I love to hear the stuff they come up with.

my favorite of all time is Rush. do we have his radio show? haven't heard it in ages and ages.

I adore hearing him and his fans. really a twisted sort of reality they spew, and its funn to tune into occasinally.

Air Am - never listened to it, but seemed like it would be as boring as a tolll booth job.
