Hey everyone, we are getting snow like it is Christmas Eve tonight. Looks like a winter wonderland here in NE Ohio. How is everyone doing at the beach?

Hi, Sterling! Do you mind if I ask where you reside in NE Ohio? Almost all of my mom's family lives in the Astabula area by Middlefield and Chardon. I was just up there about a month ago and I just kept repeating, "I don't understand how you people live up here." I have my back door open a bit right now and I'm cold with my sweatshirt, fleese pants and slippers. ^_^

It was 14 degrees this morning on the way to work in Cleveland and the Blue Mountain Beach Cam is not working again so I can't look and dream about the warm SOWAL sun.

I was in Cleveland yesterday....it was cold!
We were driving through, we had been skiing at Peak N Peek near Finley Lake NY. Not enough snow though. First time that's ever happened.

We're supposed to get to -29 by morning (actual air temp). I love what accuweather said under the 'Excruciatingly Cold' headline,

"Up north, where temperatures will be no higher than the single digits, the cold can be considered dangerous, although the people who live there know how to cope with such weather."

We do, don't we? :D At least we didn't have the storms that you did. We just had short stints of REALLY cold and windy conditions about 3 or 4 times this winter. I'd rather have cold than tornados!

What's really getting to me is all this dryness - skin on my hands, fingers and feet is cracking and bleeding. My dog is itching like crazy. The salt on the roads is now all over everything. And usually by this time in Feb. we're seeing slightly warmer temps (at least mid-20's). The huge mountains of snow on all the corners and in the parking lots are frozen dangerous obstructions that won't melt 'til the end of April probably!! But the sun is shining. :D

Krafty- OMG!!!!:yikes: I can't believe cars even start when it is that cold!

In 1994, Louisville saw -18 (or maybe -22, Cheering?). I remember that it hurt my eyeballs to be outside more than a minute. I was scared by that kind of cold!

Hey John Rudy- Omega 3 fatty acids for the itchy skin poochy!

Are those capsules from the pet store? I just gave him some hydrocordone (or something like that from the vet) just to help him relax a bit. I hate to see him so itchy.

Thanks!

You should be able to get them at the pet store, or ask your vet. They are gel capsules (like vit. E)- some dogs eat them whole, some like the contents squirted on their food - it smells like stinky fish oil. They really help with dry skin. You need to get to the source of the itching, so you don't have to give him the hard stuff. If he has scratched to the point of having sores, you may need to run him in and get him on some oral anti-b's, since they can develop bacterial skin infections once they really get scratching. Also an e-collar and some steroid ointment. Good luck!

Actually, last evening when Mr. krafty left the school around 6:00, his car wouldn't start. Had to use the ol' jumper cables.

Just got back from the Y. You won't believe this jdarg, but without the wind -25 didn't feel that bad. Not kidding. It's funny what a body gets used to. ;-)

I'm taking him in to get his anals drained (sounds so yucky) and will ask for the capsules you're talking about. The pill I gave him today was the first in about 3 years, just to try to give him some relief.

however, he is acting weird. Sort of frightened, VERY restless & nervous. I'm afraid he's gearing up for one of his occasional seizures.

Brrrr it was -22 and I hated every minute of it. The scary part was the power went out. The neighbors came over so we could shiver together. Good times, we cooked on my gas stove and had a big fire all day. The kids played board games and we cooked and ate most of the day. We were bundled up with so many layers we looked like that kid on the Christmas Story. I'm not a fan of wearing a coat and tobaggon while cooking.
