If Nader were on the ballot, would you participate in the process?

You have either a black man or a white woman as Democratic candidates and that is plenty progressive. Nader is unnecessary, but it would be interesting to watch him waste his time and someone's money.

What makes either having a white woman or a black man running for
president in anyway progressive? Why does color/race or gender matter anyway ? What makes Democrats progressive ? Progressive defined:
making progress. I have seen no real progress from either the Republicans or Democrats in many years, regardless of race or gender.
In recent years we have tried Bill Clinton (Democrat) that was a disaster. Then 8 years of George W (Republican), the net effect of his
administration has been like the whole country has been hit by a hurricane. Everything is a mess! And it will take years to clean up.
Nader has a long history of getting things done and making a real difference. I believe that Reagan was the last president to actually do some real good for this country and that was almost 20 years ago!

Ralph Nader is as irrelevant as a Corvair. It is thanks to he and Katherine Harris that we have had to endure the last, painful, 8 years..go away Nader!!! Please!

Nader being in the 2000 election was a good thing. Where the system failed us, was the legal system and the supreme court. When it/they gave the presidency to George W. Nader has spent his life helping others.
There is no greater calling than that.

What makes either having a white woman or a black man running forNice definition on progressive. If I asked you to define making progress would you then state "progressive"? I didn't say Democrats were progressive I said having a black male and a woman candidate is progressive. Were it Republicans with the varied selection I would say the same of them. Somebody other than an old white guy being a serious contender for the presidency is a huge deal and very much making progress, if you cannot recognize that then debating with you would be a waste of time.

The definition of progressive came from the Merriam-Webster online dictionary. I suggest that if you have a problem with the definition that you contact them. By your logic, any white woman or black man on the street would be perfect to be our next president ?? I think you are missing the point here, it is not the person that is important, it is their ideas! How do they think? Do they have strong ethics, morals and values ? Are they worthy to be leaders? Will they make a real difference ? Color, Race, Age, or Gender are non-issues. Choosing a leader based on these non-issues is not progressive nor is it wise.
Even if Nader does not have a realistic chance of winning, his being in the race brings issues and ideas into the spot light that absolutely need to be talked about.

I agree and have always admired the man. He is in the race for similar reasons as Paul, because it gives them a voice during the campaign to speak about issues that are important to them and the country. People criticize Nader for taking votes away from Gore. In my opinion that is probably Gore's fault for not being a better candidate. But if Gore had won I doubt we would have invaded Iraq. If I were Nader that would weigh heavily on my conscience.
Being in the race also boosts the post-campaign recognition and efforts of Nader, Paul, and Huckabee. And any other candidate for that matter.

I respect Mr. Nader's many accomplishments, and the desire for more open dialogue.
But why does he enter the race right *now* rather than before?
Strictly because of Hillary Clinton?
I can't help but think there is some ego in there.
He could do enormous good in a presidential cabinet, but I don't see that he helps our country as much in the role he is playing now.
He talks about how people have the power, and we do, but that power needs to be put to focused, practical use.

Go to merriams and look up logic you aren't using the word correctly. Straight from the Merriam-Webster online site:

Nader is very clear on the issue of what happened in the 2000 race.
He believes that Gore won the race and I agree with him. The state of
Florida and the Supreme Court of the United States sided with George W.
I believe that was where the mistakes were made. The Supreme Court
Justices who voted on the side of George W. should be the ones losing sleep at night. Current Iraq Death toll Estimates:
135,000 + of which 4,279 are US Military and Coalition forces.
I also believe that those americans who did not vote in that election are
also responsable for the mess that we are in. If more people had taken the time to really get to know the canidates and actually voted, then that election could have been very different.

There is the problem of those 537 votes. It does cause a bit of problem when you have to count each of them.

Nader is running because none of the major candidates are addressing corporate crime, impeaching the war criminals Bush and Cheney, and a number of other things. God bless the troublemakers!

interesting thread here.
however lacking in charm he may be, I realize he has some important achievements and ideas - and he should have some role in helping our country. why the hail does he have to run for president in order to have himself heard? is this the only way to make a difference - to me he just makes himself more controversial in the process - making fewer of us even want to hear what he has to say.
peter - I disagree on you about your assessment of clinton being a disaster. those days were the good old days, especially if you compare them to these. just my opinion of course.

The Oscars were on last night. Most of the categories, there are five nominees. Would be pretty boring if it was only two, no?
