?Solar Energy Users Could Get a Boost [Palm Beach Post]
The Florida Public Service Commission is scheduled to vote on a proposal for "net metering," a type of billing in which customers who have solar electric systems would receive billing credit for any excess power they send back to their utility.

I thought people could already do this. It has long been a fantasy of mine to send a bill to the light company.

Ditto - I distinctly remember hearing that a house in Alys Beach was doing this! It made me want to do it in my house until I was told that w/ my limited budget there were much better ways to be green than solar power. :idontno:

I don't care about green, I just want to stick it to the man.

That's my one of my main motivations for building green too - save $$ on energy!

The other is to reduce the amount of icky chemicals in my daily life.

The house in Alys beach is with Gulf Power that IS on board with net metering, not so with Chelco (last I checked, a year ago) or what they pay back is off-peak, whole sale prices that amount to squat.

As for the SB44's comment about better ways to green one's abode, this is true. The first step to incorporating solar power into one's home, is to eliminate as much energy use as possible. Otherwise, you'll be spending more for a PV system that wouldn't be able to cover all of one's energy needs. Ideally, you would want to get your kwh/month below a cetain level before even considering solar.

Of course, this is if you want to bring some benefit to the environment. If you have plenty of money and roof or yard, you can buy as many PV panels as you desire, though the net benefit to the environement would be very little b/c each of those panels require resources to build.
