I've had 2 Chi flat irons, loved them both while they were in working order, but they both died rather untimely deaths. Too fast for what they cost, I should say. I need a new flat iron ASAP and am willing to try a new brand. Suggestions?

Yippee!!! My favorite topic!! Mine died too a long time ago....I have some cheap brand that I bought at Ulta and it works great.Beach Fanatic
I've had a Solia for about 3 years now, and I love it. It has heat settings and it heats up pretty quickly. It works great and it doesn't damage my hair as much as my old conair. I bought mine at Folica.com, but I'm sure you could find it anywhere online.

Pea, that's so strange. If anyone could burn out a Chi, I'd have thought it would be my daughter, but hers is still going strong.
The one you want to ask about the best model to use is your hair stylist. That's where Philippa got her advice. Evidently there are different grades, even in the same brand name. Just like paint.

I'll add it to my consideration list!

Yes, it's true about the stylists. My previous stylists all recommended Chis, but my current "girl" is a Brit and only swears by the GHD irons, which are even pricier than Chis here in the States! At least they're readily available now; when she first moved here, she purchased one from home, and the price was outrageous.

I need to find one too. I have one but it isn't ceramic. I don't really like to use it but sometimes it is needed if I need to give a crap about my hair appearance.

One of my girlfriends introduced it to me so I'm only too happy to pass the torch on. Oh, Philippa's long-lasting-much-abused flat iron is a Chi Global Beauty model. I noticed from the Ulta advert in today's paper that it's on sale now. I don't know if you want to try your luck on yet another Chi, but there it is!

The Chi is totally over-priced. You're paying for the name brand. You can get a killer one for around $40. Is there a Sally beauty supply around here? Get a ceramic that has multiple settings. Trust me- I have the thickest, curliest hair on the planet and straighten regularly. My favorite is Jibere Titanium Tools. Mine is 2 1/2 inches wide. It's been great- I had had it for years- and when I got it it was $60. Can't beat that price drop...

My hairdresser recommends FHI or Croc.

Can't beat that price drop...I had a Jilbere as my first flat iron, then moved up the Chi, and the difference was literally night and day. As far as how the Chi performs, I think it'd be hard to top, but I'm fed up with replacing them, so that's why I'm looking for a new brand.

My hairdresser recommends FHI or Croc.Good to know, BR. I started reading up on FHIs last night and think that's the one I'm going to try.

We get our flat irons from Trade Secrets at the mall and they do have a lifetime guarantee. Perhaps they are not ceramic or appropriate, they do work well and the one I have is over seven and they just replaced one for my daughter which was a little older. The Mall is in Denver, closer to Aspen.

I was going to suggest a FHI also. They're supposed to be a lot better for your hair.
I bought a CHI on Ebay in the fall. I paid $69 plus 19.99 shipping at the time. The seller advertised a one year warranty and had excellent feed back...at the time. The first one lasted Sam two weeks before it just stopped heating up. I emailed the seller and had to pay another 19.99 shipping to get another. It lasted 6 months. I checked his recent feedback and most of it said this....not a real CHI, do not buy from this seller.
It worked great and looked like the real thing but I know now that it wasn't.
I've been burnt by Ebay for the last time.
