Hey Otter,
I though I read on some thread that you were a drummer. You migh appreciate the work that went into this (vid clip - pretty grainy, unfortunately - I didn't do the conversion):
Drumline
Couldn't resist showing off my boy & his buddies doin' one of their their things (mine's center snare - in the center ;-)). These guys are only HS sophomores & Juniors now - things are probably gonna get even more interesting next year.

The highschool that my son will go to, has terrible football team, but they have an AWESOME marching band. We all go to the games just to see and hear the band!!!

I love high school marching bands! Merman, thoughtful husband that he is, bought me the movie "Drumline" for my birthday and we watched it down at the beach together.

In fact, tomorrow we're going downtown to the RCA Dome to watch the Indiana State Marching Band Finals. :clap_1: :clap_1: Watching those talented drummers on the video really has me looking forward to it! Go Band!

I expect that will be a good time! :clap_1: Son's band will be in a state level comp over here on 11/06, and they'll be at the Dome in Indy for Grand National prelims on Thu 11/10 (there last year as well, but didn't make the cut for semi-finals; pretty talented crowd of folks turn out for that). We of course drop work and skitter over to Indy for prelims that day, and go back over for semis Sat - dosen't matter whether our band is there or not, it's a hellofa show all day long... ;-)
Wife & I go to all the games and competitions - as much for the band stuff as the FB ;-) Work in/around food stand during home games but still get to watch...

Wow! If you come to Indy to see them on the 10th, give a holler. We live just minutes from downtown. We're driving to Seagrove again on the 11th (my husband has the day off so we're heading out early) so we'll miss that weekend's events, but if I can watch the bands on the Thursday you know I'll be there!

We'll be there, but we usually get roped into chaperone (herding cats) and other "support" duties [tear-a**ing across field hauling flimsy "props", trying not to trip over feet and generally make an a** of oneself] - keep us pretty darn busy ;-)

Yep that... Now, the drumset in house - another thing entirely [though he does really dig old jazz stuff] - working on finishing basement in new house, incorporating considerable soundproofing in walls and ceiling

I can't count how many times that one's spun up at home - don't know if you can wear out a DVD, but son's probably giving that one a run for the money...

LL, I could hear a marching band from my house in Mtg., too. I always heard them Thursdays during their practice and Friday before the game.

Why is it that those big marching bands give you chill bumps? Am I the only one that this happens to?

Naw - me too. Partly from watching all the sweat, time, and dicipline that goes into producing a lousey 15 minutes of "performance". Partly just 'cause it looks & sounds so cool when it's done well...

You missed one of the earlier posts - I think he's probably run his copy of that every couple of months or so since we bought it for him. ;-)

OhioBeachBum, we went down to the RCA dome on Saturday for an afternoon of band music! It was so much fun. Every single band was so different than the next. We particularly liked the color guard--our daughter did that freshman year so it reminded us of that. I am in awe of all the talent that is out there. Amazing! :clap_1:

I thought of you as we watched all the parents scurrying on the field to set up and break down. Man, do you guys ever hustle!

Some groups can get busy with prop stuff - ours is pretty simple this year. Quite a few outfits are so big and/or have so much crap they have semis to haul it around (and big $$ parents to foot the bill ;-) ).
