Hey y'all.
We have driven Denver>Amarillo>Dallas>Meridian (MI)>Panama City Beach.
Tomorrow we'll go to Port St Joe and get the keys to our temporary house.
Then we'll register the kid at high school, begin settling in, and look for a more permanent place to live.
Wow, it has been quite a magical mystery tour. Both dogs plus geriatric cat are fine if a bit confused. We are eager to get to the beach.

Yes, I did indeed actually mean MS for Mississippi.
Thanks for the welcome, and for not getting too much on my case, y'all!
Must have been tired from sitting in a car for 20-odd hours.

We made it here on Monday. We still do not have a washer/dryer or cable TV, but we managed to get a modem and some sketchy telephone service yesterday. We also registered the kid at high school (a cute girl showed him around) and he is already practicing with the soccer team. I love Port St Joe.
It will be interesting...some of the locals are excited about the changes, some are apprehensive and/or downright upset. I think I know something of how they feel, and I sympathize. We certainly will strive to be good members of the community.

The day we arrived, there was a cold front as well as Red Tide, and that threw us off a bit. But things are better now. The dogs absolutely love the beach. The sand and sea especially nice for our older dog's sore paws. The young dog loves the running space. Our ancient kitty seems livelier, maybe she enjoys the warmer nights.

We are in temporary housing, and it is daunting looking for a new place to live.
We don't want anything fancier than what we had in Denver, but it is hard to find something in our price range. Plus the kid and I want to be in town, and the husband wants to be close to the water. Plus all the flood zone issues etc etc. We will figure out something.

Get out to the State Park at the end of the peninsula as soon as you can. You can walk for miles on the beach and see wondrous things.

We were at St Joseph State Park day before yesterday. We are staying out on 30A about 20 minutes east of Port St Joe, so while it is a bit of a hike to town, it is nice being so near the park. Felt so good to walk and walk after sitting in a car for days. Would like to get to St Vincent's Island.
I never thought I would have a nested pair of bald eagles down the street from me. And the clouds of migrating monarch butterflies (and other butterfly varieties, one of them Day-Glo yellow) make it all seem so otherwordly.

You are so cute to notice my birthday! (Even though I am not thrilled to be 51. Ouch.)
We will go out to the Sunset Coastal Grill for dinner tonight. Looking forward to this. :)

Hi Cil..Welcome welcome...
If you do not have a real estate agent I have gone to wwwrexandersonrealty.com for property search for your area. You can search for a home thru MLS from this site. Or contact the agent Rex. He is very knowlegable and easy to work with. Hope this helps with your home search.

Go to Indian Pass Raw Bar (I heard it got some damage but I guess it's open). Tell them you're a local now and you don't want any lip.

Aw thanks Sarah. Am not crazy to be 51 but at least most of my wrinkles are from laughing rather than frowning.
LOL Kurt, we are just down the road from the Raw Bar. It is not open yet but you can tell they are working on it. I guess I can be the East Side Reporter.
I cannot believe the wildlife here. I am driving the husband and son crazy with my marveling at it. Deer crossing the road, hawks circling overhead, and clouds and clouds of migrating butterflies. We haven't seen a gator or snake yet, but our neighbors say they are around. And it is so nice to look up at the night sky and actually see stars!
Yesterday at the beach, our pup saw his first horse. Actually, several. First the ocean and now this! But he stayed calm.

Happy B-day Cil! Here's to the first of many FL b-days!! Welcome to 51! I liked 50 better because I could break into my best Molly Shannon as Sally O'Mally and "kick and stretch and kick...I'm 50!" I agree about the laugh lines....got plenty, but no brow furrow here...too busy laughing! We have actually seen two deer here this time...one ran across the road in front of us and one did the deer in the headlights on the side of the road! Keep us up to date on all things to the EAST!
