I am so distraught...I have to board Molly for Christmas through New Year's and I have put it off hoping the Love Boat would sink and let me off the hook. Has anyone heard and/or used The Barking Hound Village for boarding? We have new one here and I see that it has an Atlanta location. I will be interviewing places today over the phone and could use some input here. Thanks....and don't tell Molly yet....

I've heard good things about Barking Hound Village, but I've never used them.
I've have used Best Friends Pet Resort in Alpharetta with satisfaction.

GTTBM has a great idea- does your vet board? Usually vets only board their clients- so that is nice!

That is my "nephew" Swagger in his timeout chair. My "niece", the black lab Katie May, was a frequent Grayton visitor until the dog restrictions tightened up. One year she slept in the car at night. The next year the rules read "no dogs on the PREMISES", so that was that! Don't think little Swaggy will be coming to the beach
Miss Kitty- if you were closer, I'd keep Molly in a heartbeat. MacGregor would love a playmate!

Sueshore, gosh...you need someone in Atl to watch the pup? If we end up not leaving for Xmas, I'd be happy to keep Molly with us for the week. (We're about 20 minutes or less from the Atl airport.) She'd have a little farm to run around and Bailey loves playmates. Keep looking for other options, because we might be going to see in-laws, but it's starting to look like that won't be happening for various reasons. Please PM me a week or two before, I'll take her if at all possible. She'd be one pampered pooch, you know that..

Start searching for "dog/house" sitters!!! We stopped boarding our dogs when they kept getting so homesick for us and lost weight. We finally found a certified, bonded, trained lady, who does this for a living. She carries a pager, cell phone, picks up the poop, takes out the garbage, turns on/off lights, etc. We interviewed her, checked her out with the BBB. She'll give them meds, too, rush them to their vet if necessary. Our 2 dogs LOVE her. She plays and walks them. Comes 4 times a day (early a.m - late p.m.) She's not cheap, but it is such a peace of mind!! If you find a good one, this will be a long-term relationship! Call your vet and get recommendations.

Molly thanks you for all your good advice and man, I wish we did live near Atlanta...some SoWaler would have a visitor! My daddy (PawPaw) used to keep our Missy for us down in Houston. We would drive her down before we left for sowal for our two week stay. He loves Molly, but I fear she would be too much work for him.
I am now going to call the vet. They know me well... I am just a tiny bit neurotic about my furry child. Everyone has fallen in love with this doggy doll....maybe someone will volunteer! This is worse than ever leaving one of my kiddos behind!!!!

I agree with JohnRudy about the pet sitter. None of our pets has ever seen a kennel as an overnighter. With one dog and one cat, it is less expensive to have our house/pet sitter than to board them. In years past, other pets would come home sick, which was scary and expensive. This way, they do not have their routines interrupted and we also have someone to get the mail, newspapers, and deliveries daily. Ours charges $30/day and we just consider it part of the cost of going away. She charges $10 less if it's only kitty, because Butter can travel in the airline cabin and he's happy anywhere we are. Our sitter sends us e-mail about how the pets are doing each day (invaluable peace of mind) and has also saved the day by sending the occasional item or papers via overnight to us. She is there 24/7. You can find these people in the Yellow Pages, but we find the best source is either other pet sitters (who might be booked solid), through veterinarians' offices, or at local pet supply shops. (I do not recommend Petco...too young.) The pet sitter is the first call we make when planning a trip.

Good advice Donna...sounds ideal. I did just make a reservation for her at the Barking Hound Village. Got her a suite (I can afford it...I shop at TARGET!) and the gal was darling! We were invited to go over and visit, which we will do. This has worn me out and I need a nap.

Glad to know you have a place reserved. My dog is extremely sensitive, so we cannot board. She either goes with us or has a dog sitter. I have 2 people I use and the cost is the same as boarding. My friend spends the night and lets my dog sleep with her, just like the dog, Maggie, does with me. It is really fun because she enjoys the extra money and I have tons of books. The sitter thinks she is having a paid vacation. Responsible college kids are good options. You will definitely miss Molly while you are away.

For the ultimate in kennels view the following - there is an advertisement that you have to watch first - I don't know how to get around it. Too bad the kennel is not in Dallas so that Molly could get a massage while you all are cruising.
