Today, while reading through the ads in the Walton Sun, I notice an ad for Colonial Bank which reads, "Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer."
Can anyone explain to me how an employer can be both? I thought this was an oxymoron.:idontno:

They have probably had a Federal compliance review in the past and are trying to cover their -sses. We were just a tiny little construction company and got a job that was partially Federally funded. By the time I got through the review on our employment policies I learned you can not have enough gobbley gook to throw at them. Went from a one page employment policy to a hand book, a 10 page application form and extra large bottle of Tylenol.

I thought that the EEOC (Equal Employment Opportunity Commission) regulated employers so that employers would not discriminate based on:
-age
-disability
-national origin
-pregnancy
-race
-religion
-sex

...while Affirmative Action gave some people a foot up.

I totally agree with you. It makes no sense. Semantics are important!

And by the way, I am nosy.

Are you still going to be able to play on SoWal.com during work hours?

General contracting/Home Building

It is a family business I should have been involved with a long time ago.

OH LL- always run your house plans by women- we notice things that the guys don't - like where the garage is in relation to the kitchen, laundryroom issues, etc.!!

Many thanks people. And Mrs. LL will have plenty of input. She's in accounting so she can keep all my numbers straight.

About posting, I don't know how often I'll be able to. I may have to git myself one of those vibrating sidekick things.
