INFO ABOUT CLOTHES DRYERS
I had a wonderful morning, the heating unit went out on my dryer! Why does
everything seem to fall apart this time of year!???
The guy that fixes things went in to the dryer pulled out the lint filter.
It was clean. We always clean the lint from the filter after every load of clothes.
He told us that he wanted to show us something.
He took the filter over to the sink, ran hot water over it.
Now, the lint filter is made of a mesh material - I'm sure
you know what your dryer's lint filter looks like.
WELL......the hot water just sat on top of the mesh!!! It didn't go through it at all!!!
He told us that dryer sheets cause a film over that mesh that's what burns out the heating
unit. You can't SEE the film, but it's there.
This is also what causes dryer units to catch fire potentially burn your house down
with it! He said the best way to keep your dryer working for a very long time (&
to keep your electric bill lower) is to take that filter out & wash it with hot soapy water & an
old toothbrush (or other brush) at least every six months.
He said that makes the life of the dryer at least twice as long!
How about that???!!!! Learn something new everyday!
I certainly didn't know dryer sheets would do that. So, I thought I'd share!
Note: I went to my dryer & tested my screen by running water on it.
The water ran thru a little bit but mostly collected all the water in the mesh screen.
I washed it with warm soapy water & a nylon brush & I had it done in 30 seconds. Then when
I rinsed it the water ran right thru the screen!
There wasn't any puddling at all!
That repairman knew what he was talking about!
PLEASE PASS THIS ON TO OTHER PEOPLE IN YOUR ADDRESSBOOK. NOT ONLY
COULD IT SAVE SOMEONE'S HOME, BUT IT COULD SAVE SOMEONE'S LIFE.

OL...someone sent this to me last week. It's one of those people that sends all those "chain" type emails that I generally loathe, but this was informative. How come in my MANY years of drying clothes, this has not been an issue? I promise I will soak my lint trap today just in case!!!
Thanks for looking our for us!!!

I know that dryer sheets also leave a film on towels, making them less absorbent.
I wonder if placing the dryer lint screen in the dishwasher would work? Sounds like less work.

GET OUT!!!! THREE loads a day????? Do you work at a laundromat???Exactly. I do laundry once every three weeks and, thanks to my Jiffy Steamer, I only iron twice a year, whether I need to or not. LOLOL. I used to have a "household manager" (calling her a maid would be an insult), but she retired at 75 and I can't find a replacement.
Even when my daughter lived at home and changed clothes 6 times a day, I only did laundry once a week. I still only ironed twice a year.

Don't need to iron much myself, either, but I do hate to see my impressive ironing skills put to use so infrequently. My 'bama mama taught me some mad ironing skills; nobody irons better than a Southerner!

I just turned my old washer and dryer in (14 years old) for the new front loader type.... Laundry is soooooooooo much faster now. Hmmmmmm, should I sound so happy about laundry equipment?

I'm looking at some steamers at Linens N Things. What type do you have? I have friends who swear by them and I really, really hate to iron. My ironing pile gets soooo high sometimes, my husband thinks I bought a new piece of furniture....

Thanks for the tip. I did as you suggested. Now I have a clean filter also. :clap_1:

If I let it go too long, we're able to practice our mountain climbing skills on the dirty clothes. When I was about 8 yrs old, my mother, and I love her dearly, told me that if I wanted clean clothes, I needed to learn how to operate the washer and dryer. Sure, I may have had some colors bleed on occasion, but I never had to ask her to wash my clothes again. My mom is a smart lady.;-)

Whatever she did, it sure seems to have worked, SJ. You've turned out purty good from what I can tell.

CoS!!!!! I am so happy about your new appliances! Yes, indeed you should sound happy! It will make your life a little easier and make doing the laundry actually FUNN for a while. I just got the best dishwasher ever!!! It is one of those with the DRAWERS and I have been using just the top drawer...no bending (my aching back!) and it's like the most fun to load and unload and see CoS...even "stable" people like me can go a bit nutty over appliances!!!

I guess I should do the same since I originated this post. I posted and ran this morning...church, lunch and then a school musical..Joseph and the Amazing Tech. Dreamcoat. MY all time favorite musical. Then out to dinner. It was a good day.

Not my intention to do so, but good for you if you are realizing something that. There is nothing like experience to teach you anything.

Confession: I pulled out the filter when I put a load in the wash this morning. I just went to dry the load (ADD) and put the filter back in without cleaning it....maybe TOMORROW, TOMORROW, I'll do it TOMORROW! Where all the FUNN's anyway?

Crap. I just bought a new dryer from Sears yesterday. Guess I could have tried that first.

I am going to try it when I get home, because mine has not been getting as hot as it used too. I hope it does the trick!!!
