Post-Thanksgiving Blues

Thanksgiving at SoWal was so awesome!!!!! The weather was absolutely gorgeous on Thursday-Saturday (although scary Wednesday night due to wind and a pain in the butt for loading up the car on Sunday due to the monsoon, but that's okay). Gators beat FSU in bball and fball!!!!! We watched the GT/UGA game with the doors open - that's how warm it was - and made delicious fish tacos from incredibly fresh seafood. We saw Rent the movie on Friday - a great interpretation of the Broadway version. My Thanksgiving meal was awesome (nothing like fresh sage). Now I'm in a slump after getting spoiled at the beach with my family and smacked in the face by getting drenched this AM going to work.

We might drive down this weekend just to relieve my blues. Decorating the house in GA can wait.

BR, did you go to Seaside on Friday? Everyone was there it seemed! The weather WAS glorious Thursday/Friday/Saturday. Unfortunately, we flew back home Saturday afternoon. It was still a great week of relaxation, which is what we desperately needed for our vacation!

I told my husband if the wind was that bad, imagine a hurricane.

I thought the sliding doors at the condo would pop out of their frame!

Yeah, even the two cool, "too-cool" college students at my house wanted a mother's assurance on Wednesday night with all of that wind. My daughter and her boyfriend got really scared. It's nice to know that even when they're that old, they still need me.

I literally ran to Seaside Friday AM (to hell with plantar fasciitis) and window shopped, but Friday afternoon we went to Destin to see Rent. It was awesome.

My daughter and I saw Rent on Sat. You're right--it was really awesome!
We went straight to Best Buy after the movie to buy the soundtrack. Did you ever see the play? I wonder how it compares. I know that 5 of the 7 main actors were in both.

Friday at Seaside reminded me more of summer.
We loved having the doors open and no AC or heat on. And no bugs coming in. Just got to see and listen to the surf (and the frogs too, SJ).

We kept smelling something that had a sweet fragrance. We kept sniffing anything blooming to try to determine what we were smelling but never figured it out. Anyone know?

BR, I hope you can go back this weekend. Sure wish we were close enough to come more often. Our stay was very short, but great! :D

We liked the musical on stage better than the movie. However, we liked the energy of the opening scene in the movie. We also liked the subway scene when Angel and Collins announced their plans to go to Sante Fe - also very energetic. In addition, they did a great job with "La Vie Boheme."

But we didn't like the fact that they minimized the cute answering machine messages from the stage version. We didn't like Angel's deathbed scene; the abstractions in the stage version were more creative than the hospital scene in the movie. Also, taking Roger actually to Santa Fe was over the edge.

But no matter which version of Angel's funeral you see, the abstract version on stage or the traditional church version in the movie, when Collins sings the final "I Will Cover You" at the funeral, I bawl like a baby. Regardless of your sexual orientation, being covered with a thousand sweet kisses from the one you love is love, IMHO.

It's hard to do justice in a movie to the intimacy of a Broadway stage. Overall, I'd say that despite the flaws, they did a good job with the movie.

And Taye Diggs is hot. Makes me want to get out the "How Stella Got Her Groove Back" DVD and re-watch it for the kajillionth time.

Yes, the chili requires a lot of prep time, but worth it. I usually make a big batch for Halloween, freeze what we don't eat, and it lasts us until "it's-spring-we're-ready-for-salad" time.

I hear ya. My sister lives in Irving and doesn't get to their home in SoWal very often. We make sure that her house in SoWal is shored up whenever a storm approaches, and I'm so glad that we can help her out - a lot easier for us than her flying in from DFW. It's nice to be only 4 hours away from SoWal, although our Montgomery neighbors are even closer - GRRRRR!

I'd say we're at our SoWal home enough to be residents. OOOOH! Maybe I should get an official State of Florida UF license plate for my car!

Thanks for the comments! We were interested in hearing from someone who could compare the film and stage versions. Roger going to Santa Fe did seem to disrupt the rhythm of the story and that was obviously not done on stage. Loved, loved Angel and 'her' outfits.

Where is the barfing smiley?

Just kidding...I'd be upset about last weekend's sporting events if I hadn't known it was going to happen in advance. Yes, basketball too. Enjoy it while you can, which includes all of the foreseeable future.

Georgia doesn't have a UF tag? They have a FSU tag...my nephew has one...get your local booster club on the ball!

Are you sure? Here's the list http://www.dmvs.ga.gov/motor/plates/. None are from colleges outside of GA.

Hey, with the Gators I've learned to enjoy every victory because they've disappointed me so many times. But except for big losses, I still enjoy watching them play.

OOPS! Did some googling and found this http://www.atlantagatorclub.com/message/reply.asp?message=14&all=True.
There's a Seminole Club tag apparently - never seen one.
