. So this morning was brutal! We are going to Park City in Feb. Can't wait. I have only been skiing once when I was out of shape. It was horrible. Won't let that happen again. The first time you ski is always the hardest, because you tense up so much trying to stop. Take a lesson early, and it will help you relax and not get sore. ALso, HOT TUBS are not optional...will nix a lot of soreness if you take one every night.
As long as you ski the west and not the icy east coast, you'll be fine. SO much easier, and fluffier if you fall.
When I go skiing, I might as well go to the top of the tallest mountain, take off my skis, throw them and myself down the cliff. That's about the extent of my skills. Y'all ever been to Crested Butte? All the trails come into one steep one at the bottom and everybody watches you come in.:funn: Sounds like me!![]()
That orange netting at the bottom came in handy. I'm glad it was there.

I can totally picture it and totally relate too. I spent most of my last skiing trip in the lodge with a few hot bodies...I mean hot toddies.I can totally picture it and totally relate too. I spent most of my last skiing trip in the lodge with a few hot bodies...I mean hot toddies.

For me, skiing is about "no sound." I love going to a secluded trail, where no one is around, and hearing real silence for the only time in my life. It's total soul food.
As for skillz though, it's amazing how much just one lesson can move you from "scary/hard" to fun in just a couple hours. And I won't ever ski the east again, because ice, crowded slopes, thin trails and lift lines make skiing NO fun.

Crusty But is not the place to learn from what I've been told. Try Park City next time. Great place to learn.

My wife went out there last year. (I stayed here). She loved it. Crested Butte was some of the most beautiful scenery I've ever seen, but I don't know if I'd go back. I fell on their bunny slopes.
Maybe the snowmobile thing is more my style.

My problem is I haven't worked out in 6 or 7 months. So this morning was brutal! We are going to Park City in Feb. Can't wait. I have only been skiing once when I was out of shape. It was horrible. Won't let that happen again.

about the netting!!!! We went to Crested Butte many years ago. It was beautiful! When we ski, we always pack our backpacks full of wine, water, cheese, crackers, trailmix, etc. and find a good hiding place just off a trail in the trees (we put everything in a plastic trash bag and cover the bag with snow). Then we have a base camp all day long, so when anyone needs a break we just all meet there and we don't have to ski into the lodge! It makes for a fun party time on the slopes! We also take our Motorola's so we can find everyone. I hope we go skiing this year, we have talked about it but have not made any solid plans. We didn't go last year.go river otter go......=

If you really want quiet, and the sense of being alone --try cross-country skiing. I grew up downhill skiing, but took up cross country in grad school in Wisconsin. When we moved from the south to upstate NY, we (my husband and I) took up cross country again. Its actually beautiful, a lot of exercise, cheaper, and you don't have to worry about breaking something as you careen into the orange netting at the bottom of the slope. (tho hot tubs at the end of the day are necesary as well.)
