Yesterday, a young guy was bitten on the foot by a 5' Bull Shark while surfing at Cape San Blas. He has 22 stiches and a good attitude.

I don't know if it will make national news. If those guys get wind of it, I am sure they would love another shark attack story now that Hurricane season comes to an end.

Same place. This guy was surfing with his buddies and when bitten, he was about 75 yards from shore. Just think, he has rock star status amongst his friends now.

I guess shark attacks aren't a seasonal thing , for some reason I thought they mainly happened in the summer down there...is this time of year sort of a rare time for attacks? or does the water temp play a role? I'm just curious :idontno:

It might be just a simple numbers games - more people in the water during the summer - less people out there this time of year.

Yes, it is much more difficult for sharks to bite people inside their homes or standing on the beach.:funn:

The kid is on my son's soccer team. The bite went down to the bone.
Needless to say, he is out for the season.
BTW
They are a very nice bunch of kids and have been very welcoming to my son.

Oh Cil! How bizarre and awful for your son- make a friend, then he gets bit by a shark! How did the boy get away from the shark?

I dunno. My son wasn't there.
And he keeps me on a "need to know" basis. The second I start asking questions, he clams up. But as SJ said, there were several kids there. They had a cell, and they called 911.
I don't think my kid is exactly freaked out about this, but yes, it did sort of make us sit up and take notice. Last week I found a scorpion in the laundry room. It's always something!

The shark bit and released, the boy knew that he was bitten and told his friends to get out and they paddled to shore. One of the victim's friends called 9-1-1.
