I haven't had a chance to play around with this site yet, but Google put the text of lots of books with expired copyright online. I'll play around with the site later to see what I can find that's of interest. I'm hoping some of the classics are on it -- I really didn't pay attention when I read them for school and now's my chance to read them again (e.g., Daisy Miller). So, I thought some of the SoWal group may want to play around with this site and tell us what great readings you find.
When does copyright actually expire?

Believe me, if I didn't have to fix Will the same dang PB&J every single morning, I'd be asleep. But that is my mom job- don't want to be the loser mom!
But I like getting on SoWal while everyone is getting dressed and not bugging me!!

If I could just make a different sandwich one day a week, it would really add a little pizzazz to my routine! :floor:

Copyright expiration info.
Google wants to digitize almost every book ever written but is running into legal trouble. Seems like publishers and authors want to be paid even for books that are out of print.
Keep your eye on Google they have large plans.

Thanks. Several universities are collaborating with Google in this effort. I think it could be great but I haven't taken the time to search through what's available (but I really do want to read some of those old classics again or at least give it a good try). Could go to Fonville Press or Shades (or other place that has Internet access) and look up good things to read.

It makes sense that universities would be interested in this. I know that my kids get a reading list each summer (and I'm sure the same will happen at the college level) and they never fail to wait 'til the last minute before school starts up again to purchase their required reading. However! These same kids have tons of time all summer long to play on the computer. Perhaps if their books were on the blinking screen, they might manage to sneak in a few pages here and there. :clap_1:

Jdarg, consider yourself blessed!!! My son is so picky. For a while he was on a salami kick, then ham, he hates PB& J and bologna. School food is gross (per Dylan) and now he's been requesting a "nothing sandwich" which consists of 2 peices of bread with the crusts cut off and that's it! I'm so DONE with all of it.

:floor: the nothing sandwich!!! My kids take their lunch to school too! Don't you just love waking up early to make those lunches?!! It is always such a challenge to make sure they have variety all week. Right now we are stuck on ham and cheese sandwiches. My son eats everything, but both my daughters come home with half their lunch uneaten. What's a mom to do?? :idontno: Maybe I should suggest the "nothing sandwich"!
I'm going to check out the online books site now.... I promise!

I think you two moms are very nice. My kids have been fending for themselves in the kitchen for years. I don't "do" mornings and they know it! Our pediatrician once said that mothers should not micro-manage their children's food choices; that left to their own devices they manage to eat remarkably well-balanced diets (say what!! 😱 ). I took that info and flew with it. My kids have been in charge of their own lunches for years and they're both healthy as horses and neither has a weight problem.
Now if they'd manage as well with their reading materials, I'd be super happy.

I've tried not to cater to his pickiness too much but he's so darn thin. I guess that's why I worry if he doesn't eat much or eat healthy. On the other hand, my daughter likes just about anything and most of the time buys her lunch at school. She's built a little bigger and I have to keep an eye on what she eats. Maybe it's just her age. (12 in 2 weeks) At Thanksgiving she did not stop eating...every time I looked around she had a new plate of something. And this was after dinner! The inlaws probably thought I never feed the kid.
Thanks for the link Paula. Where would we be w/out Google!

You're welcome. I figured that if some of us got a chance to play with it a bit, we'd be able to recommend some good online reading to each other.

I know what you mean, Ocean Lover. My son, who is now nearly 19 years old, has the same build as yours. Very slim. I worried, too, about him eating enough and being healthy. But it was like moving that proverbial rock up the mountain--you know, the one that keeps slipping back. I finally gave up and let him find his own *&)&* food in the kitchen since he didn't like anything I made (and I'm a decent cook, so I know it wasn't me). I made sure the pantry was always reasonably stocked and I let him, and his sister, "forage" for their own food. They lived. 😀 Said son is now 6'2" and weighed about 170 lbs or so at his last check-up. Said daughter (who enjoys her food just like yours!) is now 5'5" and a perfect size 6.

I took that road with my two when they were younger. Otherwise, I would have been institutionalized. They both grew up healthy and eat healthy today. I only had one hard and fast rule. No dessert if you don't eat a reasonable amount of "regular" food. I stuck to my guns on that one.

gttbm! How good to see you! How's that dear sweet grandbaby faring? I want to know if you will be able to keep to your "no desserts 'til after" guideline when baby Camden gets old enough. My parents raised us so strictly and the minute we all started producing grandbabies for them, they went SOFT! I couldn't believe the things my parents let my kids get away with. I'd have been flayed alive for infractions my parents just laughed at!

He's doing really well. I am back and forth everyday. Her husband is in Colorado this week. She still can't drive so I have had a lot of opportunities to cuddle with Mr. Camden.
I will spoil him. No doubt. I hope I don't give into the dessert rule though. My daughter was a terrible eater when she was small. We were at my MIL's house and she didn't eat. She wanted dessert and I said no. She pitched a full blown "hissy fit!" I took her away form the table. Calmed her down and explained she would have a time out because of the tantrum. When I returned to the table, my MIL marched down the hall brought her to the table and started to fed her dessert. At this point I wanted to fling a hissy fit, but didn't. I took my child and went back to our "naughty spot." I don't want my daughter and SIL in the same position. I'll just wait several days and take him to TOYS 'r US!!!!!!
