Hardest person to buy for on your Christmas list?

"Trees are up and the stockings are hung, but no presents under the tree. Is it just me, or is everyone getting harder to buy for?"

...quote from dbuck on another Lounge thread (THANKS for the Question!)

So who's the achilles heel on your holiday shopping list? The person who has everything or the person who says s/he doesn't want anything? And are you a last minute shopper, scurrying only hours before the shops close for the last deal? Or are your presents already 99% wrapped?

And what's your take on holiday shopping? Dream come true OR Wake me up when it's over?

I'm not even going to ask about holiday cards... :floor:

Although I am not on my own Christmas list, I am probably very difficult to buy for. I have everything I want or need, I try to be a minimalist, and I hate the idea of giving because you "have to." The coolest gifts I receive are things that are personal and meaningful, if only in thought, to the person(s) giving them. One of my most treasured gifts was a poem written by a friend. I would take a drawing, poem, or a hand written note, or thought over any material gift every day of the week.

I so totally agree, SJ!!! In fact, I have tried to "skip Christmas" for years, but keep getting over ruled or manipulated into participating. I think it should be about being with loved ones and doing special things together. No gifts because you "drew" their name or because you know they are getting you a gift.

We give gifts all year long and just about anytime we visit or are visted by loved ones. This year I think I've convinced my husband (and some of the family) that it will be a minimal present year.....we'll see. I'll let you know how this goes.

HO!!!! HO!!!!!

My Father In Law. He doesn't really NEED anything. We gave him a photo calendar last year and he refused to use it because he didn't want to "mess it up". Same with shoes, clothes, other items. He lives very frugally, even thought he doesn't have to--it drives my hubby crazy. He won't even use the answering machine, because he thinks it uses too much electricity. You gotta love him!

I tend to do all of my shopping in one day. Usually a weekday. I just start in the morning and go til I'm done. But, I have been known to be out on Christmas Eve a couple of times--for just one more gift.

This year it is Will, my 13 year old. I can't come up with anything "fun"- like something to play with. He does need a new tent and backpack, but I'm looking for something little and funny too.

Both kids haven't asked for much this year. One of the things Dylan wanted was an Ultimate lightsaber kit. They were sold out everywhere I went today and online too. I looked on Ebay and there were 200 of them. GRRr. I did not want to pay $10 more and $10 to ship the darn thing. I called my mom in Florida and had her check her Walmart. They had one left and she bought it!!! Yea!! I can rest easy tonight. 😀

My soon to be 13 year old has asked for a PSP (Sony Play Station Portable). That is all he wants. Just thought I would give you an idea.

You cannot buy real ones, because they are illegal in the States. However, if you want to teach your kids how to potentially pick out pieces of PVC from their friends head, here is good link on how to build one. Note, if you are shot with one, the potato can easily penetrate a human body and exit through the back side. Extremely dangerous, probably much more than guns, because they are silent, and the raw materials, costing less than about $20, can easily be assembled by a 10year old.

I had one at Auburn. Good times, glad nobody was killed though.

never heard of that before :idontno: the plastic balls that shoot out of the guns I am talking about are teeny teeny tiny, it would take a whole handful to even weigh an ounce. ;-)

The real potato guns use Idaho Spuds, the baking size.
