I need to take a poll and see how many of you love your jobs. I just switched jobs for the sake of keeping a job, and I'm less than happy. REALLY lesss than happy. So, I'm just curious--what do you do? Do you love it? Hate it? What's the secret to making it work? :idontno:

inner peace with ones self can make or break you. I just closed my studio and now I am working from home part time. I too am looking for a job that I can just go to and leave with a pay check. I really love doing make-up and I will always do it but not on a full time base. I need change in my life that because I've changed as a person. I know today I am a better person than I ever have been. Where will I be in a year? I don't know!

i am a hospital pharmacist, work 3rd shift and love it. would despise it if i had to work a different shift though. my husband is a pharmacist for cvs - he hates it, unfortunately found out too late what it is like to work with the public and insurance companies. but after spending all the time and money to go to school, what do ya do? why is it that the people getting everything paid for them are the nastiest most hateful people to deal with ?

I am a Financial Manager for a bank. I wouldn't say I love my job - some days I do hate it. I don't really dislike what I do but am tired of dealing with the politics of the corporate world. I think one of the secrets to making it work is to try not to let work related stress get the best of you & to forget about work once you walk out the office door. Or win the Powerball. Somedays I think the latter may be easier.

I don't know how many jobs I've had in life that I really loved; I think those are rare. At the time I left my job as a magazine editor to stay home with my first child, I was pretty content there and loved many aspects of that job. But lots of things about it, I disliked.
I find the same thing with my "new" job as a stay-at-home mom; it's very hard, and I don't feel like I love it every day, but I do feel like it's where I'm supposed to be. If I had a secret, I think that would be it--it works because I feel like it's what I'm supposed to be doing. My calling, if you will. That's what keeps me doing it every day. I think either you have a conviction about what you do, or you're blessed enough to actually love what you do.
Or it pays an insane amount of money. :funn:

Right now I am jobless. I am a preschool teacher, have taught little ones for 25 years. I truly enjoy teaching preschoolers; they are little sponges, soaking everything up, their energy, affection and honesty never fail to move me.
I was really happy with the teaching job I had in Denver, but then we moved here.
I am not sure what I will end up doing; I am not in a big hurry to make a move, but I am not exactly the Corporate Wife type.
The local Head Start offered me a job floating, but at only $7.50 an hour. Obviously I did not get into Early Childhood Education for the vast wealth, but that's half of what I used to make in Denver. We'll see.

My conflict is that while I enjoy being creative (music, photography, graphics, etc.), I've found that when I do that for a living, it takes some of the joy out of it. It's stressful to create "art" for a living, because it's terribly subjective (there's no right or wrong answer, you never know when your project is actually complete, and your best work can be panned by a client for any reason at all-they don't like the color, or maybe they just have different tastes. Very frustrating.) For me, the balance is achieved by doing less-artistic work for a living (HTML/web work, tech writing, what have you) and saving the creative energy for my hobbies and interests. (Until and unless someone wants to pay me insanely to do them, which I don't expect or plan for.)
Every job gets old after a while, once it's completely routine. I've hit that point with web work after doing it for 10 years. I've been considering going back to school to teach web/media at the college level, or possibly getting a realtor's license. (I wouldn't be one of those red-blazer go getter types, just casually practice it if I decide to go through with it. I love real estate, and it would jibe well with the music demands, but it seems that the last thing the world needs is another realtor. Teachers, on the other hand....)

I teach as well and love it. I truly believe it is my calling because I have had other opportunities, but they did not feel right. What I dislike about my job is that everyone seems to think that all students must score 90% or better on tests. I am tired of the government dictating what I do without ever walking in my shoes. :bang: :bang: No two children are alike and each have different needs. It seems education is so consumed with keeeping up, that we do not take time to build a strong foundation. They just keep dumping more on these children.
I have considered realty appraisal as a second career. A good friend's husband does it, and it seems like a great job. Out of the office some and well paid. But for now I will stay where I am.

Well, that's it, you hit it on the head. I don't feel, at all that this is what I'm supposed to be doing. I felt the same way after my first corporate job and still feel that way, but I felt I had to take this job.

Working with people ( women) all my life as taken a toll on me. I love doing make-up but I rather deal with men. So I think I just might take a ad out and say this:
Pro. Make-up Artist for CrossDressers
What do you think?

Just curious, what is it about women that has token a toll you? Are we just harder to get along with, or are men just easier to deal with?
Oh and by the way, welcome back to the board. You have been missed.

When I waited tables I much preferred dealing with men vs. women. Less particular, more to the point, fewer headgames. (WAY better tippers.)

I love my job. Sometimes I get up in the morning and don't want to go, but that's just because I didn't want to get up in the first place.

Most Women don't want a change even if they say they do. Some of them are still walking around with brown lipstick on and their hair is so bleached blonde. That is NOT a GOOD LOOK! It makes you look older! powder on older and/or on someone that tans a lot, is not good. Creme blushes are so much better, it hides ALOT! And The make-up is just to hide and beautify your look for a day. Skin care is what every women should be doing every morning and night.
Men will do what you tell them to do to look better. Men Don't spend money on anything unless they are going to use it.
On a biz stand point, I feel this is true.

Your husband needs to change companies or y'all need to move to the South. My Dad has been a Pharmacist since 1950 and he has always loved it. He just retired with Winn Dixie and is still working fill in around town (Huntsville) for others. If your husband is not a people person tell him to go back to school or go into the hospital like you did. Lots and lots of pharmacy needs in the South (Must be because we like our fried food) :rolling:
Me, I work as a purchasing agent for a defense contractor and I have really never liked my job since moving to Atlanta but for now this is the best place for us to be since my wife loves her job and we live in a great old area of Atlanta. Just putting in the time for the check so we can move to Sowal in 10 years or so. OF course if I win the lotto I am going to hire Katie Blue to teach me Guitar lessons at the beach 😀

when my hubby externed at the hospital where i work now, he didn't care for it, he said it made him to nervous, esp. dealing with iv's. unfortunately to move to the south, we'd have to take the state boards again, and frankly - there ain't no way !!!! believe me he would love to move south, but i can't move while my parents are still around, and don't think i could stand to be any farther from my sister. the main thing i think that gets to him is the nasty public - we have lots of medicaid patients who frankly shouldn't be on it around here, and they are the absolute most hateful nasty rude people you have ever seen. i am talking 23,24, 25 year old men and women who won't work - but that is another story.
