What are you doing on the eve of the new year???

Just curious what kinds of plans you all have for New Years Eve. I am completely undecided. We've done the dress up and go to a party thing (all kinds, for years and years). We've done the dinner out with friends. We've done the beach bonfire where we bring our christmas tree for fuel (freeze your a$$ off). Our latest tradition is staying home, cooking, and just being with family and friends.

What is your tradition? what are your plans, whether they be extravagant or not.. what are you doing on NYE???

whatever it is, be safe and have a wonderful new year!

... was get engaged! She and her boyfriend went to the beach before midnight, and he started setting off fireworks because she really likes fireworks on NYE. Right at midnight he asked her if she wanted to try one. He knew she'd say no because she's scared to do it herself. So then he said, "How about this?" He handed her a box with an engagement ring in it and popped the question. They were both so cute -- so excited! We expected it, so we had a bottle of champagne ready for us to make a toast to their future together.

We like him a lot. He's very sweet and loves our daughter, and is smart, a hard worker, very motivated, very well-mannered, and handsome as well. He is an undergrad at Georgia Tech, and they plan to get married after they get their undergrad degrees. Then they both plan to go to grad school. He already has research grants and has published papers in professional journals. She is doing web and logo design for a company in California.

We had a wonderful New Years full of old friends. One family was the best man in our wedding. They have just moved back here from Honduras. How much funn it was watching children who knew hardly any english still interact with children who speak no spanish.

Close to midnight I was explaing traditions we have on new years day. (peas, cabbage and/or turnip greens, etc) Mari told me of a tradition that they do every year, it is one her father (from Spain) taught them. It is called "the race". You gather up a suitcase (for travels in the new year), money (for making it), something red (for love) and something yellow (for health). At midnight you run as fast as you can around the home you are staying in. I told them that tradition could not be broke. So we gathered up some things and got ready. We were staying at the Villas at Seacrest Beach so I went and unlocked the "villa owners only" gate so we could enter the side of the building. We ran and ran around to the other side of the other building only to find that the public gate was locked.:lol: Luckily the key I had worked but I tell you the hispanic kids actually scaled the fence so that they did not waste any time. :rolling: What funn it was to have a new tradition added to our new years eve festivities.

Does he have any younger, equally smart and potentially successful brothers we could introduce my daughters to? I'm generally not pleased with the boys they bring home.

My therapist said I made a real breakthrough on New Years Eve! I got into a crowded elevator with partygoers and did not intentionally fart.
To deny myself that simple pleasure feels unnatural and I won't make that mistake again. I'll continue my flatulant restraint in the hottub.

Thanks to all for the congratulatory wishes!
Congrats to you all BR!:wave::wub: I'm so happy she's found the "one". Now get busy planning that wedding girl! Time's a-wasting!:wub::wub::clap: Much happiness to you all.
Hopefully we have plenty of time since they won't graduate until May 2010 and plan to get married after that.

Hubby and our future son-in-law drove to Alabama to get the fireworks. They got some of those huge ones that go way up in the sky (I don't know what they're called ). They were awesome!

His brother (younger) also goes to Georgia Tech. 😀
