I think this artist is so clever. He has gone around this medieval Italian town (it's an artsy nature loving town) painting the underwear hanging outside people's windows. And his show of pantie paintings is now in Florence. He made a calendar of these photos (and I'm trying to order two). Very few people use clothes dryers in this town like we do in the US, so in this town (and I suspect much of Italy) you often see underwear on clothes lines hanging outside the 15th century old buildings, along with the begonias, geraniums, and other flowers. And you often see shoes airing out on the window cills (sp?) as well.

In some ways, I see many similarities between this old Italian town and SoWal -- the natural beauty is wonderful, there's an effort to find the balance between the old and the new, there's an effort to balance tourism with the peacefulness of the town (yet tourism is one way the locals are bringing income to their families), there's an effort to balance striking natural beauty and growth. It is turning into an artists' community (the photographers on this board have counterparts in Barga -- you all should meet someday). There is jazz and outdoor opera in the summer as well. Hmmm, it would be interesting to be sister towns...

I guess our version would be "beach towels of SoWal" unless we can convince association boards in SoWal to let people hang underwear from their porches (we're not supposed to hang towels from our porches, so panties would be a stretch).

You were not alone in your thought.

I adore the paintings and think they capture a great and real life moment. Makes me wonder -- If one hangs underwear in Alys Beach, does it have to be white? I could paint the Mutande Bianca of Alys Beach Series. :funn:

 I love it! And no skid marks, either!

this is beautiful artwork, and what an idea! I want the calendar too!

TWT (Uncle Timmy), CJ and others on this board are Italian white Panty Enthusiasts and will be very interested in this thread... we already have a sowal annual Festival de Pantolones Bianca, hosted by TWT last year, and probably this year as well...

I just found this thread - interesting. Yes Tootsie we will be having another Festival di Pantalones Bianca this fall but bigger and more outrageous than last year. Who knew others shared our enthusiasm for Italian underwear! (That ought to be explained to everyone reading but I guess we'll just let their imaginations run with it.....)

well, we watched that big guy with the white undershirt and shorts everyday for over a week in Vernazza, Italy when we were there for CJ and BBBM's wedding. we now have our very own sowal festival named for him. we could never figure out why he was wearing that white uniform day after day in the piazza, like he was on patrol or something in his underwear (though it was shorts - but looked like boxers). you shall have to attend the next Festival de Pantelones Bianca. we cook lots of Italian and wear white. BBBM and CJ wore actual men's white undershirts and boxers from walmart. hysterical. BBBM won the costume contest and got to take home the festival poster.

Uncle Timmy (twt) - where is the poster/invite?

well, we did kind of get to know Mr. Bianca Pantelones, but not personally. see, we were afraid to actually speak to him. but we watched him and he was part of our daily experience in Vernazza. kind of a distant friendship you might say...

Tootsie: If others are invited to your wonderful Festival di Pantalones Bianca in the fall, I'd love to come (I started the mutande of Barga thread -- Barga is my family's hometown in the old country). I really think Barga and SoWal are sister cities with some like minded people--SoWal has the lovely ocean/Barga has the lovely Alpinini mountains.

Sure seems like it. Except that the Barga people like to paint pictures of mutande and the SoWal people like to party in pantalone. And the Barga people (known as the Bargagiani -- are we known as Sowallers?) made a calendar with photos of the mutande of Barga. I'm ordering two...
