you could call the wildlife refuge but they'd probably not take it. seems like someone else found one and they told her to let it go. . if you want to try to save it get a hamster cage, give it some bird seed and water and just try not to handle it much. how small is it?? I really have no idea. I'd probably try to save it, but that's just me. :idontno:

milk from an eye dropper is what we used when we rescued baby squirrels back when I was a wee-pee.

A friend of mine used baby formula until his grew teeth and then it was birdseed. Hemmingway is now in a large cage and enjoys a life of leisure. He's over 9 years old and still healthy as a horse.

P.S. Squirrels turn gray with age.

That's what we did. We used puppy milk. We found a baby flying squirrel, but there were three of us kids taking turns feeding it....which felt like it was all day long.

So, I went to look up the feeding schedule cause I can't remember what I ate this morning. Depending on the age it could be every 2 - 4 hours. This link tells you how to check age. I would just give it some pedialyte to keep it hydrated till you can figure out what to do. This also says that most are dehydrated anyway and they don't digest the milk well until they get hydrated. It says for 12 hrs.

We also used the milk and eyedropper when we rescued a bunch of baby opossums. Somewhere, I'm sure I have a photo of some baby opossums climbing on my brother's arms and shoulders.

With the squirrels, we actually warmed them up in the oven!!! It was a cold wet rainy day when they fell out of their nest.

I will not publish her number online but I can have her contact you at yours. She will take very good care of your baby squirrel and has 2 right now that she is caring for since mid-July. I look forward to helping you out- You may contact me at 850-381-2036.

Thanks,

Justin

If it's still a baby, get it started on Rosetta Stone. I'd suggest one of the Middle East languages. The CIA needs spy squirrels. If it refuses to learn, call it taxi---a taxidermist.

I found one once and raised it. Had him for two years. He was the coolest pet I ever had. Don't know how young yours is, but the vet I took mine to said to feed him whole wheat bread soaked with milk. Worked like a charm.

We kept him in a cardboard box and cut up some rags to swaddle him...put a little reptile warmer at the corner to keep him warm, and Mrs. Hop took him to the wildlife refuge in destin this morning. We debated keeping the little bugger...but figured he'd be best in professional hands! Alls well that ends well!:wave:Bye squirrly!

I found a baby squirrel that had no hair, very little. We kept him/her for 3 weeks and then called wild life rescue in Destin. They took her and found out it was a rare black squirrel. They put her with another squirrel and let them acclimate themselves back into the wild in FWB near the Air Force range. Loved the little thing and sad to see it go, but it needed to be in the wild.

We almost had a new pet yesterday.....but thankfully the story has a happy ending for all!

I went outside on the back porch yesterday afternoon, and noticed a little creature splayed out Superman-style on a chair. When I got closer, I realized it was a baby squirrel, looked up in the rafters, and sure enough, probably the dumbest squirrel in the history of the universe had built a nest in the highest point of the rafters. This squirrel is uber-dumb because we have 2 50 pound terrier mixes who go bonkers if they hear any word starting in SQ....and we also have a cat.

The baby wasn't moving much so I picked him up and put him in a small box with a towel. After a few minutes, he started trying to walk around the box (not well- looks like walking was a very new thing). According to the squirrel rescue info, he was about 5 weeks old- eyes just open, tail not bushy yet. Kate and I gave him some water with a dropper, which he seemed to drink, snuggled a sock around him, and he went to sleep.

Next thing I know, Kate is googling "baby pet squirrel". What? Where did the "pet" part sneak into the equation? I called the Destin Wildlife group, and made plans to take him there this morning if his mom didn't fetch him.

We went out to dinner and left him on the porch in the box. Thankfully, his mother came back for him, and left me a nice "present" in the box as evidence that she was there (or payment for my trouble). We are so relieved!

Bdarg had stopped at the feed store in Niceville and picked up feeding syringes and Ebsilac (formula- baby squirrels are not supposed to have milk), so if anyone ends up with a baby squirrel, let me know and we have the supplies to take care of it if mom doesn't come back and you can't get him to the rehabilitator people right away. And there are lots of good websites with good info on evaluating the babies and caring for them- but the most important piece of info was to find the wildlife people and take the baby to them!

Years ago I found a baby squirrel, but it was a little older. It had fallen out of the nest and smacked his face. Took him to the vet to get checked out. I wound up raising him and had him for close to two years before I fully reintroduced him to the tree in the backyard. He was by far the coolest pet I've ever had.

I found a little squirrel a couple of years ago, he just wandered up to me so I called paws and they told me what to feed him. He was sooo cute, we fed him and wrapped him in a towel and he fell asleep. Anyways, Paws called me back and they knew a lady that had a pet squirrel that had died the week before and she wanted to adopt the one we found so we took it to Paws and the lady came a picked it up and they gave it shots and everything so it went to a good home. It was the cutest little thing and my son held it while it slept all the way over to Paws and when I took it inside, everyone gathered around and oooooed and awwwed over it. We were in Fort Walton Beach at the time so I figured the mom must have gotten hit by a car or something because that little thing was starving but as soon as its belly was full, it fell right asleep.

Glad the momma got him...he was so cute. Now he will live to torture your dogs ;-)
