ACORN Officials Videotaped Telling 'Pimp,' 'Prostitute' How to Lie to IRS - Local News | News Articles | National News | US News - FOXNews.com
Officials with the controversial community organizing group ACORN were secretly videotaped offering to assist two individuals posing as a pimp and a prostitute, encouraging them to lie to the Internal Revenue Service and providing guidance on how to claim underage girls from South America as dependents.
The videotape was made public Thursday on BigGovernment.com, a political blog launched by Andrew Breitbart as a companion site to his BigHollywood.breitbart.com blog.
In the videotape, made on July 24, James O'Keefe, a 25-year-old independent filmmaker, posed as a pimp with a 20-year-old woman named "Kenya" who posed as a prostitute while visiting ACORN's office in Baltimore. The couple told ACORN staffers they wanted to secure housing where the woman could continue to maintain a prostitution business.
ACORN ? the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now ? bills itself as the nation's largest community of low- and moderate-income families "working together for social justice and stronger communities," according to its Web site. The organization has been accused by Republicans and conservative activists with fraud in voter registration drives around the country and has been under fire since last year for its support of President Obama and for its planned participation in next year's census.
A spokesman for ACORN, Scott Levenson, when asked to comment on the videotape, said: "The portrayal is false and defamatory and an attempt at gotcha journalism. This film crew tried to pull this sham at other offices and failed. ACORN wants to see the full video before commenting further."
On the videotape, "Kenya" can be seen telling an ACORN staffer that she earns roughly $8,000 a month. The ACORN employee then suggests to "Kenya" that ACORN could submit a tax return for 2008 showing that she made $9,600 for the entire year ? instead of $96,000 ? and that ACORN would charge "Kenya" $50 instead of the usual $150 fee for preparing her taxes.
ACORN offers tax preparation and benefits application services free of charge during tax season; it charges nominal fees during non-tax season.
The ACORN staffer can also be seen suggesting that the prostitute list her occupation as a freelance "performing artist."
"It's not dancing, trust me," the "pimp" says.
"But dancing is considered an art," the ACORN staffer replies. "[Exotic dancers] usually go under performing artists, or yeah, they usually go under performing arts, which will be what you are ? a performing artist."
The "pimp" later says that he and "Kenya" plan to bring up to 13 "very young" girls from El Salvador to work as prostitutes. Although an ACORN staffer points out their plans are illegal, she also suggests that the girls can be claimed as dependents.
"What if they are going to be making money because they are performing tricks too?" the pimp says.
"If they making money and they are underage, then you shouldn't be letting anybody know anyway," the ACORN staffer says, and laughs. "It's illegal. So I am not hearing this, I am not hearing this. You talk too much. Don't give up no information you're not asked."
The "pimp" then asks ACORN staffers to "promise" not to discriminate against his sex worker because of "who she is and what she does," according to the audiotape.
"If we don't have the information, then how are we going to discriminate?" the ACORN staffer replies. "You see what I am saying?"
If the girls are under age 16, the ACORN staffer says on the tape, then they are not legally allowed to work in the state, regardless of what they do.
"So it's like they don't even exist?" "Kenya" asks.
"Exactly," the ACORN staffer replies. "It's like they don't even exist."
The staffer goes on to suggest that as many as three of the underage girls can be listed as dependents at the home, but a "flag" will be raised if as many as 13 are listed.
"You are gonna use three of them," the staffer says. "They are gonna be under 16, so you is eligible to get child tax credit and additional child tax credit."
The ACORN workers also appear to be promoting the group's services to the "pimp" and "Kenya."
A second ACORN employee can be heard on the audiotape suggesting that the couple join the organization for an annual cost of $120 prior to attending one of its first-time homebuyer seminars, which are underwritten with taxpayer funds.
Later, when the "pimp" asks what would happen if the organization is somehow connected to the scheme, the ACORN staffer replies, "First of all, it's not gonna damage us because we not gonna know. And with your girls, you tell them, 'Be careful.' Train them to keep their mouth shut."
"These girls are like 14, how can we trust them?" the pimp asks.
"Just be very, very careful," the ACORN staffer says. "Whatever you do, always keep your eyes in the back of your head."
Reached by FOX News, O'Keefe said he was "shocked" at the level of assistance provided by ACORN staffers.
"I was prepared for them to call the police, throw me out of the office and be hostile," he said. "Without hesitation, they helped me every way they could with evading taxes and setting me up with a brothel, with getting around federal tax laws ? doing everything they could to help us. I was completely shocked."
House Republicans issued a report in July accusing ACORN of engaging in a scheme to use taxpayer money to support a partisan political agenda. California Rep. Darrell Issa, the top Republican on the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, called for a criminal investigation into the group, which dismissed the report as a "partisan attack job."

"In October 1967, while on a bombing mission over Hanoi, he was shot down, badly injured, and captured by the North Vietnamese. He was a prisoner of war until 1973. McCain experienced episodes of torture, and refused an out-of-sequence early repatriation offer. "
Bob...it sounds to me like he qualifies as both a POW and a Hero!!!!

After John McCain was captured, the Vietnamese offered to let him go after finding out that his father was a high ranking Army officer. John McCain's response was that people who had been kidnapped before him should go first. He was tortured for five years after that.
Bob - you may not like him or his politics but how you can say that he is not a war hero is beyond me.

I agree.
This is what I would consider to be heroic about McCain.
Then again, maybe more technically it would be "honorable", "honest", "fair"? But I think this is what people think about when they refer to him as a hero.

Make-Believe Maverick : Rolling Stone VIOLATING THE CODE
Ensconced in Apple's villa in Saigon, McCain and the Times reporter forged a relationship that would prove critical to the ambitious pilot's career in the years ahead. Apple effectively became the charter member of McCain's media "base," an elite corps of admiring reporters who helped create his reputation for "straight talk."
Sipping scotch and reflecting on the fire aboard the Forrestal, McCain sounded like the peaceniks he would pillory after his return from Hanoi. "Now that I've seen what the bombs and napalm did to the people on our ship," he told Apple, "I'm not so sure that I want to drop any more of that stuff on North Vietnam." Here, it seemed, was a frank-talking warrior, one willing to speak out against the military establishment in the name of truth.
But McCain's misgivings about the righteousness of the fight quickly took a back seat to his ambitions. Within days, eager to get his combat career back on track, he put in for a transfer to the carrier USS Oriskany. Two months after the Forrestal fire following a holiday on the French Riviera McCain reported for duty in the Gulf of Tonkin.
McCain performed adequately on the Oriskany. On October 25th, 1967, he bombed a pair of Soviet MiGs parked on an airfield outside Hanoi. His record was now even. Enemy planes destroyed by McCain: two. American planes destroyed by McCain: two.
The next day, McCain embarked on his fateful 23rd mission, a bombing raid on a power plant in downtown Hanoi. McCain had cajoled his way onto the strike force there were medals up for grabs. The plant had recently been rebuilt after a previous bombing run that had earned two of the lead pilots Navy Crosses, one of the force's top honors.
It was a dangerous mission taking the planes into the teeth of North Vietnam's fiercest anti-aircraft defenses. As the planes entered Hanoi airspace, they were instantly enveloped in dark clouds of flak and surface-to-air missiles. Still cocky from the previous day's kills, McCain took the biggest gamble of his life. As he dived in on the target in his A-4, his surface-to-air missile warning system sounded: A SAM had a lock on him. "I knew I should roll out and fly evasive maneuvers," McCain writes. "The A-4 is a small, fast" aircraft that "can outmaneuver a tracking SAM."
But McCain didn't "jink." Instead, he stayed on target and let fly his bombs just as the SAM blew his wing off.
To watch the Republican National Convention and listen to Fred Thompson's account of John McCain's internment in Vietnam, you would think that McCain never gave his captors anything beyond his name, rank, service number and, under duress, the names of the Green Bay Packers offensive line. His time in Hanoi, we're to understand, steeled the man transforming him from a fighter jock who put himself first into a patriot who would henceforth selflessly serve the public good.
There is no question that McCain suffered hideously in North Vietnam. His ejection over a lake in downtown Hanoi broke his knee and both his arms. During his capture, he was bayoneted in the ankle and the groin, and had his shoulder smashed by a rifle butt. His tormentors dragged McCain's broken body to a cell and seemed content to let him expire from his injuries. For the next two years, there were few days that he was not in agony.
But the subsequent tale of McCain's mistreatment and the transformation it is alleged to have produced are both deeply flawed. The Code of Conduct that governed POWs was incredibly rigid; few soldiers lived up to its dictate that they "give no information . . . which might be harmful to my comrades." Under the code, POWs are bound to give only their name, rank, date of birth and service number and to make no "statements disloyal to my country."
Soon after McCain hit the ground in Hanoi, the code went out the window. "I'll give you military information if you will take me to the hospital," he later admitted pleading with his captors. McCain now insists the offer was a bluff, designed to fool the enemy into giving him medical treatment. In fact, his wounds were attended to only after the North Vietnamese discovered that his father was a Navy admiral. What has never been disclosed is the manner in which they found out: McCain told them. According to Dramesi, one of the few POWs who remained silent under years of torture, McCain tried to justify his behavior while they were still prisoners. "I had to tell them," he insisted to Dramesi, "or I would have died in bed."
Dramesi says he has no desire to dishonor McCain's service, but he believes that celebrating the downed pilot's behavior as heroic "he wasn't exceptional one way or the other" has a corrosive effect on military discipline. "This business of my country before my life?" Dramesi says. "Well, he had that opportunity and failed miserably. If it really were country first, John McCain would probably be walking around without one or two arms or legs or he'd be dead."
Once the Vietnamese realized they had captured the man they called the "crown prince," they had every motivation to keep McCain alive. His value as a propaganda tool and bargaining chip was far greater than any military intelligence he could provide, and McCain knew it. "It was hard not to see how pleased the Vietnamese were to have captured an admiral's son," he writes, "and I knew that my father's identity was directly related to my survival." But during the course of his medical treatment, McCain followed through on his offer of military information. Only two weeks after his capture, the North Vietnamese press issued a report picked up by The New York Times in which McCain was quoted as saying that the war was "moving to the advantage of North Vietnam and the United States appears to be isolated." He also provided the name of his ship, the number of raids he had flown, his squadron number and the target of his final raid.
THE CONFESSION
In the company of his fellow POWs, and later in isolation, McCain slowly and miserably recovered from his wounds. In June 1968, after three months in solitary, he was offered what he calls early release. In the official McCain narrative, this was the ultimate test of mettle. He could have come home, but keeping faith with his fellow POWs, he chose to remain imprisoned in Hanoi.
What McCain glosses over is that accepting early release would have required him to make disloyal statements that would have violated the military's Code of Conduct. If he had done so, he could have risked court-martial and an ignominious end to his military career. "Many of us were given this offer," according to Butler, McCain's classmate who was also taken prisoner. "It meant speaking out against your country and lying about your treatment to the press. You had to 'admit' that the U.S. was criminal and that our treatment was 'lenient and humane.' So I, like numerous others, refused the offer."
"He makes it sound like it was a great thing to have accomplished," says Dramesi. "A great act of discipline or strength. That simply was not the case." In fairness, it is difficult to judge McCain's experience as a POW; throughout most of his incarceration he was the only witness to his mistreatment. Parts of his memoir recounting his days in Hanoi read like a bad Ian Fleming novel, with his Vietnamese captors cast as nefarious Bond villains. On the Fourth of July 1968, when he rejected the offer of early release, an officer nicknamed "Cat" got so mad, according to McCain, that he snapped a pen he was holding, splattering ink across the room.
"They taught you too well, Mac Kane," Cat snarled, kicking over a chair. "They taught you too well."
The brutal interrogations that followed produced results. In August 1968, over the course of four days, McCain was tortured into signing a confession that he was a "black criminal" and an "air pirate."
"John allows the media to make him out to be the hero POW, which he knows is absolutely not true, to further his political goals," says Butler. "John was just one of about 600 guys. He was nothing unusual. He was just another POW."
McCain has also allowed the media to believe that his torture lasted for the entire time he was in Hanoi. At the Republican convention, Fred Thompson said of McCain's torture, "For five and a half years this went on." In fact, McCain's torture ended after two years, when the death of Ho Chi Minh in September 1969 caused the Vietnamese to change the way they treated POWs. "They decided it would be better to treat us better and keep us alive so they could trade us in for real estate," Butler recalls.
By that point, McCain had become the most valuable prisoner of all: His father was now directing the war effort as commander in chief of all U.S. forces in the Pacific. McCain spent the next three and a half years in Hanoi biding his time, trying to put on weight and regain his strength, as the bombing ordered by his father escalated. By the time he and other POWs were freed in March 1973 as a result of the Paris Peace Accords, McCain was able to leave the prison camp in Hanoi on his own feet.
Even those in the military who celebrate McCain's patriotism and sacrifice question why his POW experience has been elevated as his top qualification to be commander in chief. "It took guts to go through that and to come out reasonably intact and able to pick up the pieces of your life and move on," says Wilkerson, Colin Powell's former chief of staff, who has known McCain since the 1980s. "It is unquestionably a demonstration of the character of the man. But I don't think that it is a special qualification for being president of the United States. In some respects, I'm not sure that's the kind of character I want sitting in the Oval Office. I'm not sure that much time in a prisoner-of-war status doesn't do something to you. Doesn't do something to you psychologically, doesn't do something to you that might make you a little more volatile, a little less apt to listen to reason, a little more inclined to be volcanic in your temperament.

Yes, I agree 100%, we should investigate fraud and wrongdoing and if those perpertrators are found guilty they should be punished. The only problem I see is that some on the right want to be selective in their pursuits. Any talk of investigating crimes in the former administration is viewed as a witch hunt. Those who authorized and carried out torture are viewed as heros. A no bid contract to a former Vice Presidents company which resulted in massive over billing to the taxpayers for shoddy work that killed some of our men and women and sometimes no work done at all is viewed as part of doing business in wartime. Losing anywhere from 9 to 20 billion in cash in Iraq is seen as no big deal. Let's treat them all the same and get to bottom of these scandals and let those responsible fall no matter on which side of the aisle they may stand.

Well, a FOURTH video of Acorn is out today. This one will blow your mind. (No link just yet but will post one). To make it even more interesting, the prostitute said to Acorn worker that she'd like to educate all of those underage children [she was bringing over from El Salvador to become prostitutes] so that they could get loans through Acorn Housing later on and run their own "Brothels". The Acorn worker replied 'now dont educate them too much, then they wont need you at all, just teach them as little as possible to get by'. Then the pimp asked how he could legally fund political campaigns using these underage kids...and Acorn proceeded to guide them on just how to do that...and gave them names of the senators and congressmen who supported Acorn (the "non partisan" group). The prostitute then stated she had murdered people. {Edit to correct: The ACORN worker stated she had actually shot and killed her boyfriend} in an exchange of stories between worker and prostitute.
It might be interesting to note that the Teachers Union donated 1.7 million dollars to Acorn last year. Wish we could get that money back. So many good things could be done for the children in the schools with this money.
P.S. When Charlie Gibson of ABC news was asked to give a comment about the videos of Acorn today, he replied he had never heard of any of them. What is going on with the media?

You can go to CNN and MSNBC's web sites and not find one mention of this story. Patrick Swayze's death, Kanye West, the shoe thrower says he was tortured, but not one d@mn mention of these videos, the Senate pulling their funding and their elimination from their involvement in the census. They so desparately are trying to keep this story from getting one shred of attachment to the President. Think if Bush would have had the same level of involvement with ACORN. There would be so many hearings and investigations already underway. Hell, his people are getting investigated for waterboarding the mastermind behind 3,000 deaths that happened on our soil. You dems have awoken a sleeping giant, and you aren't going to like it one bit when we start investigating Obama. I'll beat you to the punch of when it happens by saying, yeah, yeah, yeah, we're all racists. Pretty soon there will be a smiley face making the jerking motion...and it will be the perfect response to the knee jerk, played out comments about dissent = racist.

If there's evidence of Obama's wrongdoing bring it on. Til then looks like you'll be the only one in suspense.

You're going to start investigating Obama? You? What the hell are you going to do? If you have the power why don't you take things in their proper order and investigate the last Administration. I'm sure you are equally upset with Halliburton and affiliated companies and Blackwater to start with. There is plenty of investigating on these companies to keep you busy untill this story unfolds.

I have no problem with ACORN being investigated, where in the hell do you read where I do. I would just like for the many war profiteers to be examined a bit closer. The amount of money you are so concerned about is pocket change compared to these guys. They have been raping us with someones help in power and I believe the blame falls on both sides. But if it makes you feel better to go after ACORN first I could care less, I'm not here to defend them.I pulled that post because I did not think it was proper but you answered it so quickly it was a futile effort. I think you put way to much emphasis on private contractors in Iraq but that is a personal opinion just as yours is. I think, if I remember correctly and it is possible I don't, 7 Billion to ACORN is a lot of money. Regardless of the amount, from every report I've seen, sketchy though they may be, they don't deserve one penny!
Did I ever say I never watch Fox News? If all they broadcast is propaganda why do you watch them?

Ahhh, the tough guy. It's not a question of the word you're. Whether you like it or not you and I are both part of the royal we (Lebowski rip off
On to your second point...the same people that always get worked up about Haliburton would never get worked up over Gore pushing BS global warming while owning his carbon offset company Generation Investment Management. The plan is simply to globally tax us into submission over something that hasn't been scientifically proven, only for him to bank his everloving nutz off...but what the hey it's only getting colder by the day with a continuous stream of scientists yelling that this scam is complete BS, but you can't see past the neat little green sticker on the back of your prius. Again, I'm all for protecting the environment, but you'll have to put a better scam together than that cr@p to get me to stop pulling my boat around with my truck.

That must have been some incredible timing, I logged on and saw your post, answered it and moved on.
I believe it was established on this or another thread that ACORN has recieved between $30 and $50 million dollars, not anywhere near the $7 billion that has been claimed. If there are some in the organization guilty of crimes I say charge them, go to trail and let the courts decide their fate. I am going to reserve judgement of the whole organization until more comes to light. I feel the same way towards the private contractors, the majority of them have and are doing good work.

Ahhh, the tough guy. It's not a question of the word you're. Whether you like it or not you and I are both part of the royal we (Lebowski rip off). The same royal we that has taken it upon itself to investigate our CIA, is the same royal we that will investigate the illegal government takeover of certain auto and banking companies, illegal firing of IG's and the channeling of millions into a whore house consulting firm. Only you won't like that one because your are emotionally invested in the new President's plan to have the government become a bigger part of your life. The seesaw tilts back and forth but one side has become very heavy in the recent months...writing their elected officials, calling, yelling, marching on Washington and downright screaming to be heard. If you think it was a great accomplishment that the left side of the royal we pushed government to investigate the CIA, just wait until the right side of the royal we shoves the microscope inside the current circus happening outside our windows!

That was a damn good movie.
Investigations don't bother me so much as one group claiming witch hunt while screaming for investigations for their opponents. If there are going to be investigations at least take them in order. I wouldn't want someone cheated out of their place in line and - I have a Prius?
