What 3 items do you take camping that you can't live without (other than the obvious like water and matches)?

Are you camping out for concert tickets or really camping? If it is the later, and you are doing it with your kids....

my hubby's family camped all the time, he had never stayed in a hotel until our honeymoon. the one time i went camping with them, it was 110 degrees out in the shade, it stormed terribly overnight and the air went out in the trailer, and a skunk got into the campsite - peeeeuuuuu! that pretty much told me i was not a camper.

I'm trying to warm up to the idea- really camping.

RO- do you take a generator for the coffee maker? I'm liking this a bit more if I can have a real coffee maker!

Well, there is car camping and there is camping.

tent, sleeping bag, Thermarest, small pillow (much more comfortable than a wad of clothes)

Swiss Army knife (w/ corkscrew and can opener), ear plugs, tp (toilet papert), chopsticks or spoon.

If you are car camping and other people will be around, the standard requirements are

-Loud radio with many batteries that plays really well after dark.
-Many battery powered lanterns so that the campsite glows like neon lights.
-Much alcohol that can be consumed late at night which helps you yell louder than the person sitting across the lantern from you.
-big balls to have the nerve to do it.

your supposed to make the coffee in an old fashioned perker over the fire! ....I think camping would be funn  ...for a FEW DAYS....then its back to civilization for me!! One of my best memories is of camping in a park in Cape Hatteras NC...with my family and another family...it was soooo much funn!!! I don't know how my parents liked it but I can assure you there was A LOT of alcohol involved!!!!! My mom actually did cook and make coffee over a fire with a grill on top....best eggs and bacon I ever had!!
Just relax and enjoy it Jenn....and remember..nothing lasts forever  ...make sure you have rain gear and somekind of padding if you are on the ground

No, it sits on a Coleman stove and acts just like a Mr Coffee instant coffee maker (Cause thats what it is). It uses the heat from the stove burner instead of electricity. It is a lifesaver

I'm not sure whether y'all are going to scare me out of camping or talk me into it! I'm waiting for Bdarg to notice this thread and fall out of his chair laughing. It's not that I've ever said "no camping", but I think I scared everyone else off the idea 'cause they see what I pack for the beach!

I went camping only once in my life - in a tent. There was a horrible, torrential rain storm during the night. I was lieing on my back, thinkiing about getting up and running to the car. I looked up to the ceiling of the tent, focused, and almost had a heart attack! There were hundreds upon hundreds of those daddy long leg spiders, hanging on to the ceiling!! It truely was one of my most memorable nightmare moments! I ripped open that tent cover and ran as fast as I could to the car, slipping in the mud. It was the grossest thing I ever experienced. Other campers said it was because of all the rain.

I camped out one time to sign my son up for Little League! The person that promised to do it got "sick". Lucky for me, the sign ups were in Feburary and on the coldest night of the year. :pissed:

I'll camp for one night at a nice camping ground that has facilities nearby (within 25 feet) and electricity at the camp site.

and I shall take:

several bottles of vino
blow up mattress & goose down comforter & pillow
tons of fire wood
coffee pot
tons of food
and $$$ - in case we decide to drive down the street to Borago's for dinner

Repellent and MARSHMALLOWS.... It's not camping if there aren't marshmallows.

:?: Where do you go this time of year? Might want to add hand warmer packets.
