Anybody listening to the interview with Max Cleland on NPR. I just bought his book Heart of a Patriot: How I Survived Vietnam, Walter Reed and Karl Rove. He is on Fresh Air with Terry Gross and it is a very interesting interview.

I heard Congresswoman Michelle Backkman interiewed the other day on Fox and she said we only need to get down to the "true facts" as far as the healthcare argument is concerned.... I used to think all facts were true??
Ah, Michelle, Prom Queen for the Tinfoil Hat crowd.
She was on Larry King last night, talking about how the "people" want Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity, et al to be their voice, that you can tell because of the ratings.
Larry pointed out that the highest rated cable shows have a viewership that amounts to less than 2% of the registered voters in the US.
He asked her directly, "Do you want them to be the voice of the Republican Party?"
She replied "It's not me, it's the people, they are clearly saying this".
Larry repeated the 2% thing, and she just beamed at him, nodding and smiling.
Ari Fleischer (W's former press secretary) was in another "interview" box on the screen and he looked like he was in actual pain.

what the heck are you getting too?
ratings are ratings-period. fox dominates because they get the news to people. get over it!
whats more exciting, watching larry king or watching grass grow? he hasnt even been making it to the top ten in ratings when just a year ago he was at least 8-10. people are waking up to real news

NPR is about the same as watching paint dry. And I just cant handle not learning anything but liberalism. The NPR days are over Im afraid.
Your attention span not the greatest? It is sometimes difficult to do the hard work of thinking. You should just stick to the easy stuff. Don't be afraid, NPR will still be around as long as smart and thoughtful people continue to contribute.

Actually, it's a small part of NPR's budget:
People do "vote" for this programming, via the 31% and 20% which comes from individuals or businesses which consider having their name associated with NPR to be a good souce of advertising.
- 31% from listeners in the form of pledges, memberships, and other donations
- 20% from businesses via corporate underwriting
- 11% from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), which is federally funded*
- 10% from licensee support
- 9% from foundations and major gifts
- 5% from local and state governments, and
- 14% from all other sources.
But, what I really want to know is, what do you think of Max Cleland? I thought it was a crime the way the GOP machine went after him in his last (losing) campaign. Ann Coulter LIED about his war record, his opponent embarrassed his fellow Republicans (who called on him to STOP the negative campaign, and he refused).
Honestly, the man is in a wheelchair because of what happened to him in Vietnam, and the opposition made him out to be less of a patriot than Saxby Chambliss, who had FIVE student deferments during Vietnam, and finally got a medical deferment because of a FOOTBALL injury.
It's the one reason that if I ever see Karl Rove down on the beach, I might just walk up and sucker punch him.
NO NO, no punching literally. My plan is to hail him by the nickname given to him by his leader:Fart Blossom. I intend to smile and wave and say "Hi Fart Blossom!"

and yet another respectful leftist being so respectful. got nothing to contribute to the debate so you use personal smears. speaks volumes and is exactly what modern day liberalism is all about. enjoy not knowing what you could know. nuff said

I used to be bored by Larry King, but I've come to think he's a genius. He lures any number of the overly self-righteous or morally challenged on the show under the concept that he's a nice, sympathetic type, and then give them just enough rope for them to hang themselves. And a surprisng number of people who have no understanding of subtlety do just that.

We've had the ratings discussion before, but let me point out once again that WWE Raw and The Ultimate Fighter always have better ratings that any cable news program.
So do Spongebob, Hannah Montana and iCarly.
That doesn't mean that the majority of Americans agree with them, or that the views expressed on WWE Raw are the truth.
My point, since you want to ignore it, is to say that since Glenn Beck/Sean Hannity have the highest rated cable news programs, that means that the majority of Americans agree with what they are saying is a fallacy. Even if every single person watching were a registered voter, and agreed 100% with the opinions expressed, it amounts to less than 2% of the registered voters in America. Ergo, ipso facto, they amount to a fart in a windstorm.

good point. i see him ask just the dumbest questions though. when you have the iranian dictator in front of you, you dont ask him "what the best and worse things youve done in your life". i could go on and on on. its just a bore these days and unfortunately for him his ratings are a reflection.

you cant compare news to entertainment-duh. fact is fox dominates in the news ratings. oreilly alone triples olby. in fact, his 11est rerun is #5 on cable ratings. thats simply out of this world for news ratings. fox has more viewers in most recent weeks than cnn, mslsd, hln combined. again, unbelievable. and theres a reason for it too.and i never said nor do i hear anyone saying that people watch because they agree with them, but thanks for putting words in my mouth. did olby tell you that one. he is after all saying that he's #1
. people are watching because they want the news-period. they dont want half truths, bias, political aggendas, irresponsible reporting, boring reporting, but more importantly they dont want hate. its that simple.i dont make the ratings, i just read them and the numbers speak for themselves.

I pose, again, my original question. What is your position concerning 62 yo woman disable by MS after working from the age 17. I am also a cancer survivior and just fininshed chem due to begin radiation today. My BC/BS, coverage I have had since my teenage years of late decided retroactivley that they would no longer pay any claims unless and until Medicare was billed first. Medicare has thus far failed to pay any claims. My surgeon who performed my masectomy has submitted bills repeatedly but Medicare has paid nothing. I expect at some point the bills will be sent directly to me for payment. What, pray tell, have I been paying premiums for . I have delayed calculating the amount of money I have paid BC over the years only to find that there is nothing there. Someday, I would be happy to tell you the story of my interactions with the BC patient care coordinator. It is tragically hysterical. I am sure many feel that getting sick is something I brought on myself. But what about the family whose child is injured by a drunk driver. Their insurace will be cancelled, depending on the severity of the injuries. Or what about my niece whose lawyer husband had excellent insurance that was instantly terminated when she experienced a complicateed delivery during which the child, while surviving, was oxygen deprived for an extended time and now is totally incapacitated. Their insurance was terminated before the baby made it to neonatal ICU. What do you think? what do you think will happend to your and your families' medical insurance, when you need it?
It is terrible - that's what I think. I don't think you brought being sick on yourself.
I always thought that if your provider accepts Medicare you would never owe more than the "allowable amount." So, if Medicare denied the entire thing (no amount allowed) and your other insurance doesn't cover anything not allowed under Medicare, you are off the hook. Obviously, I know very little about insurance and how it works.

If you are having this much trouble with Medicare, I would think you would really be opposed to a public option for the rest of us!
We need reform without a public option! I hope that is what we get.

Yes. Getting away from lib vs. conservative jib-jab, I don't love, but rather despise the way "facts" only figure into an equation or argument when they give only support to one side or other.
A fact used to be.....a fact. ( I was raised old school)
Like, fact is, the world is not older than 6,000,000 years. There will be some Americans who dispute this as fact because they have their own set of facts to support it. I cannot argue with that.
I heard Congresswoman Michelle Bachmann interiewed the other day on Fox and she said we only need to get down to the "true facts" as far as the healthcare argument is concerned.... I used to think all facts were true??
"Factuality" in America today is strictly pick and choose now. Anyone can play!
Will you cite a source for this please?
A fact is a concept whose truth can be proved. http://wordnetweb.princeton.edu/perl/webwn?s=fact
It can be misrepresented, but not adjusted to fit ones argument.
All facts, by definition, are true.

thats funny :funn:. man crush, god no!!!! i just cant believe what he does and what comes out of his mouth. i mean, he actually lies to his audience about his viewer ratings when its all there for the public to see. i still click on him sometimes but its only because of curiosity. one can truly see where alot of so-called liberals get there mindset. if they only knew. its not liberalism, its political hate driven by an aggenda. thats not news in the least, not even close. and than you got maddow who tilts american history to push an obama aggenda. things that we learned in grade school for godsake. i just cant understand why some havent seen this yet. most have hense the ratings, but many have yet too.
You certainly didn't learn to spell in grade school. What the hell is an aggenda?

Obviously you are a secretary or an admin assistant commonly known in the military as a comma momma. I used to write more on this site but the normally less educated comma momma's had nothing to do with their time but make grammatical and spelling corrections, therefore diluting individuals comments and thoughts by belittling them for their typo and minor grammatical errors.
I will have more to say about Max, but will save it for tomorrow.....after I hear all of your complaints about my comments on all of the Comma Mamma's.

 holy moly.
You can say that again. I've never seen such rigidity of opinion as I do on this forum. Coupled with a fierce desire to have the last word (I hardly know which is worse). Duel to the death and to heck with what the original question or idea of the post is. "My way or the highway" is what seems to rule in more instances than not and this post, I am sad to say, is particularly illustrative of that.
Where's the easy give and take of ideas? Where's the acknowledgement that while someone's opinion may not the same as yours, there could still be merit in at least a few points? I am baffled by this insistence that if someone doesn't follow your ideology completely then whatever they say is inconsequential. How can anyone broaden their scope if they don't listen and try to figure out why someone is saying what they are?
I don't see the point of dismissing another's opinion just because they're left and you're right or you're right and they're left. Dismiss an opinion because intellectually it doesn't seem sound to you, not because it's not your opinion! Otherwise, when you come down to it, you're only talking to yourself (because everyone else has left the building--I mean, who likes a bore, and yes, I'm talking about you).

It makes me sad that every now and then I open a post hoping to learn something about a subject I have only a passing knowledge of, and it's impossible because the conversation quickly disintigrates into a "You're wrong and I'm right" volley of hurled retorts. No insight in that and no progress either in furthering my Current Events I.Q. What a waste when there's so many interesting things to say otherwise!
