Heterosexual couple sues cruise line after being put on gay cruise - Cruise Log - USATODAY.com Heterosexual couple sues cruise line after being put on gay cruise
What was billed as Italy's first gay cruise took place last month, and by all accounts it was a resounding success. There was just one small hitch: Somehow a heterosexual couple ended up on board -- and they weren't at all happy about it.
News outlets in Europe this week are all atwitter over the story of the Italian couple, who now are suing the cruise line after reportedly being flummoxed by the experience.
The UK's Daily Mail today reports the middle-aged husband and wife, who have not been named, said they booked the trip directly with the line and claim they were never told of the gay theme. The couple's lawyer tells the news outlet all 1,500 passengers on the ship were gay and events on board were gay-focused.
The Daily Mail reports the couple's lawyer says they were embarrassed after spotting people they knew but had not realized were gay on the ship.

Bob, you've posted the story but offer no comments of your own to start the discussion. How about it?

How dumb/oblivious do you have to be to not realize it was a gay cruise?
I find it hilarious that they ran into people they knew - do you think that might be why they are protesting?

How about it?i thought my title is a clue to how i feel..... obviously the hetero couple felt out of place. perhaps they will better understand the feelings of those in the gay community. i'm sure they will be compensated mentally and financially.

I'm sure they will. I don't blame them for being put out. Not because of being straight among gay couples but because they didn't get the vacation they paid for. I mean, if I were a honeymooning bride, I'd be highly irritated if the cruise line put me on a ship full of senior citizens. Same thing. They were the outsiders and while that is, as you put it, a good lesson in "forced empathy" I bet they didn't think they needed to pay to learn it.
And it's really presumptuous for anyone to think these people dislike gay people because they're angry about their cruise. It's human nature for everyone--of any persuasion--to want to fit in. They clearly did not.

Of course they did, especially since they ran into people they already knew. It can't have taken them long to figure out these people were still the same people after they found out they were gay. At least that is what I prefer to think.
Even still, they didn't get the cruise they envisioned so I can't blame them for suing.

Question - the last time I did a "package" vacation I was inundated w/ schedules, activities, brochures, emails, mailings, maps, lodging info, suggested packing lists, etc.
So how did they NOT know it was a gay cruise w/ gay activities? 1500 other people figured it out (including people they knew BTW).
P.S. Exactly what are gay activities and why couldn't they participate? Was the wife the only woman on the ship or something? Lots of nudity?

I was on a Caribbean cruise during the height of Macarena fever...I still bear emotional scarring from that unfortunate bit of timing.

I love that they were "flummoxed"- what a great word.
But I agree with Mermaid- this was not the cruise they paid for, and I hope they get compensated for providing everyone else with a good giggle.
