Personally, I'd be happy if the only politics being discussed on here were local politics. I can get my fill of national crap from national sources. That's right -- I'm in favor of eliminating discussion of national politics on SoWal.com.

I appreciate your criticism, but I find this topic to be completely separate. If accurate, this soundbite details the lie the President told to the American people and his weaselish explanation around it. It might not matter to you, but it does to many others - including 40 Dem's in Congress willing to kill the bill over this point.

Trolling and baiting titles and posts are not allowed. This goes for you and everyone else. Moderators reserve the right to delete any threads or posts at any time. It is not necessarily your material itself that is deleted, but rather the objectionable way in which it is presented.

If you would like to discuss a topic, do it in a meaningful and respectful way. In other words - let us know your thoughts and reasons for posting something. Don't just post a flammable topic to goad certain members or to simply create conflict for your own entertainment. Don't use a subject title that is hostile and tells us nothing about the content of your post.

I am often tempted, but complete censorship is against my nature. You forget that if a sandbox is not present, extremism, hostility and nuttiness enter the other forums.

Remember you can use the ignore feature, help moderate people who are out of line, and/or refrain from entering this particular forum. Even beaches have sharks and sandspurs. Respectfully show people the door and also use the negative rep people!!!

Much appreciated information and I have no problem complying. The thread and post that included this information (and my thoughts on the topic) did not violate site ettiquette. My title, which I believe was "if true, then disturbing" did violate the thread posting rules to some extent, and for that my apologies, Kurt.

Before you decide to make me your whipping boy, you might want to change the "Politics & Current Events what's going on outside SoWal" info so others know what topics you prefer being discussed.

as much as i can understand where kurt is coming from, i cant understand why its ok to be called a racist because i disagree with someone. or have ones religion (not mine) smeared because one disagrees with someone. to me, that violates more than a post. im just saying...

I should have also pointed out in my post above that if there is a problem with a particular post, use the "report post" feature at the top right of every post. This helps the moderators.

Don't use it and give a reason as "rude post" - rather, tell the poster they are rude. This forum is thus mostly self-moderated. Use the "report post" feature for posts which cross the line. I think most of us know where the line is. Don't cross it.

This information is disturbing at best and I can't understand why it shouldn't be available in the politics section. The nation only went through an enormous uproar over the Joe Wilson "you lie" comment. What's the deal SoWal Admin?

We do not want politics and religion, etc. in the lounge, but it is a place where jokes are made about politics.

Personally, I have learned so much about people, issues, perspectives, and myself - from the Politics forum - it is mostly worth having to overlook or try to ignore the crap some people love to post. but when it gets to be too much, its time to take a break and stay away - I would imagine most of us would benefit from a break now and then.

but I do know one thing: I appreciate every single person who has shared their knowledge and beliefs and resources, in a respectful way that contributes to a healthy discussion/debate. there are those who just cannot discuss anything rationally, and there are those who cannot appreciate or tolerate thinking other than their own. I will not let those few keep me from learning from the other wonderfully thought provoking great people who teach me much. and I mean that from my heart - I am constantly amazed and humbled by dozens of you who share so much - it takes courage in addition to kindness - while participating in a debate.

yes, things can get hairy in the forum - no doubt about that. and most of us are guilty of inappropriate comments now and then. but most of us learn from those debates how to better engage with sowallers in the future. some never learn this. such a shame - because I am pretty sure these posters do have something worthy to contribute - but we will never know because they can't engage in a productive way.
