NightAngel, you should know that drugs are very available at Seaside. So I wouldn't want them hanging out there at night. A friend of mine had no clue that her teens did drugs. She happened to go check on them one evening and found them smoking marijuana that they had bought from a local.

Thankyou but I have lived in Sowal for almost 30 years so I am aware of what goes on around here and I really see no need to turn this thread to drugs just because I mentioned teenagers. Kind of took away from the whole point.

I do not think this incident means that drugs are available in Seaside. we have spent every single halloween at Seaside for many years and believe me, people of all ages are having a really good time in a really wonderful family atmosphere. not fair to make such a blanket statement about seaside or any community, imo. and certainly not accurate.

And I am sure they had never touched the stuff before arriving in Seaside. C'mon BR. You weren't born on a turnip truck. Those kids didn't have their own local supplier while on vacation, so it sounds like they did a little research and found what they were looking for.

Not to mention the irony of someone from Atlanta (the drug distribution point for the entire Southeast) worrying about kids being able to get pot in Sowal.

It's a perfect market for pushers because there are so many kids with money and whose parents let them roam around unsupervised because they think that Seaside is so pristine that their kids are in a bubble.
Not so. Not saying that my friend's kids don't do marijuana back at home, but apparently it is very easy to acquire at Seaside. Think about the packs of teens who hang out there. A perfect storm.
I am not trying to disparage Seaside. I love it. But the market for pushers is huge due to the demographics.

Sorry BR, but even my oblivious and anti-drug self knows of FAR better places to score than Seaside.
Not saying there aren't any drugs there (just like everywhere else), just that I wouldn't warn people (or teens) away from there based on a fear of it.

I agree. I am not oblivious, I have 4 kids, 3 boys and a girl ages 25, 20, 17 and 15 and the picture of drug pushers in seaside trying to get kids to buy drugs is ridiculous. Seaside is what it is and the problem with South Walton, and always has been, is there is nothing for the teens to do and nowhere they can call their own to hang out and if more than 3 of them congregate somewhere, they get accused of of starting something or smoking pot or causing trouble in some way so I see no need to start this trash talking about them pushing drugs on kids at Seaside, it is ludicrous. It just so happens that Seaside is one of the only places that lets the kids hang out and be together and go to the beach and such and I don't recall any incident ever since Seaside has been there of teens getting into trouble for drugs at Seaside.

Drugs are available everywhere.
Just say no. . . . to posting stupid stuff, and allowing people with no clue to have kids.

"Where did you get those drugs"??!!
"Some guy came out of Modica Market and made us buy them and then forced us to smoke it mom! I swear"!

good grief. just read this whole thing in the trick or treat thread. what's with that? What's the point of starting a new thread in the lounge to discuss drugs in Seaside (oh, i'm so shocked...not!)
Drugs are everywhere. One could probably meet a drug dealer in the Publix parking lot, but i'm not suspending any trips to the grocery store because of it.

As Kurt said, drugs are available almost everywhere. It just so happens that, currently, Seaside is the preferred hangout for most of SoWal's teen population. Two years ago it was Destin Commons. 30 years ago, it was (1) under the sycamore trees at 331 & 20 in Freeport, where Regions Bank is now or (2) Grayton Beach at Butler's Store aka Red Bar. Two years from now it will be somewhere else.
And yes, whereever that place is will be where a kid can get pot, hook up, or whatever. But it is no reason to avoid that place.

Just for the record, I did not start a thread on drug pushers in Seaside. Kurt started the thread. Rather, I made a post on a thread regarding activities for teens on Halloween started by NightAngel. I thought I was performing a public service by warning people about what my friend was shocked to discover this summer.
After seeing the negative reaction to my post, I decided on October 21 to make no more comments on the subject so as not to ?bump? this thread. I love Seaside ? we enjoy it every time we visit which is about 25 times a year ? so I didn?t want to inadvertently harm Seaside.
But then it got bumped yesterday. Tootsie, maybe you, like my friend prior to this summer, haven?t been personally affected by this.
Thanks to Kurt making a new thread out of this, what I was trying not to bump to the forefront has been drastically bumped to the forefront. I am truly sorry that I ever made that first post. It was a mistake. I should have P.M.?ed NightAngel.

I just feel the statement was completely unfair and unwarranted. an incident of teens smoking pot (horrors) should not be blown so far out of context, and especially to make it seem as if Seaside is the distribution point. the teens in question are the ones who made a choice and got caught. should not reflect on an entire community of good people, families and teens we know who are outstanding people. Teens can be a tough group - so no doubt there are those who do make poor choices and get caught. we just hardly ever see or hear of such around here. but if I did, I would not try to blame the place they were hanging out in.
Beach Fanatic
I think the whole idea of a drug "pusher" is silly anyway. As a former teenager (20 years ago) growing up in Freeport just a few blocks away from those sycamore trees at 331 and 20, no one ever "pushed" drugs on me. No one even wanted to share their good drugs...they told me that if I wanted to do drugs that I would have to buy my own. But you better believe that if Momma ever caught me with any, I would swear to it that I was pushed into buying it from some heathen down at the cross-roads.
Of course if you want to purchase drugs, they are everywhere. You can't push something on someone that went looking for it in the first place. I totally agree with Tootsie and Kurt, no one around here has been forced or even "pushed" into doing drugs. Instead of blaming the so-called pushers, let's look at the gullible parents.

I think that we are dealing with a semantic generation gap regarding the term "pusher." For me, a pusher is just someone who makes drugs easily available for those who are inclined to want them, not someone who talks someone into taking them.
A lot of it has to do with money. Like my college-student daughter says, illegal drugs are rampant at schools where there are a lot of rich kids, whereas at schools where there are a lot of students on financial aid, alcohol is the drug of choice.
I'm not sure why you are blaming "gullible" parents?

This, is without a doubt the most ridiculous thread...truly started in another forum and moved here, where it belongs. Kids will find drugs no matter WHERE thay are, be it Atlanta, New York, Panama City, or even little ol' Seaside. If a kid smokes WEED, they will FIND IT because THAT IS WHAT THEY ARE LOOKING FOR!!!!!!! HELLLLLOOOOO?????? DUH! DON"T be so ignorant to think that there are big bad pushers in our area...more likely there are big bad dope USERS putting the word out that they are looking for, and willing to PAY for, some good stuff!

Since this became its own thread, the general consensus is that these kids used "Seaside pushers" as their "get out of jail card" when their parents caught them...............and as I noted in the other thread, these kids have had other weird incidents in their past.
It is so freaking ridonkulous that there is even a thread w/ this title!

I am saying! All I wanted to know is where there was anywhere for the teenagers to go for a little fun on Halloween and it turned into Drug pushers in Seaside
. Locals do not like it much when non locals inject opinions about something they really know nothing about.
My son (who turned 17 on October 30th) wound up sick and we didn't do anything for Halloween anyways. He is still sick and will be out of school tomorrow, darn weather changes.

Maybe the thread title should be changed to "Kids and drugs" since it is a good, healthy discussion to have. There is no reason to make the discussion inflammatory or even associate it with Seaside. Then, folks can discuss at length without pointing fingers. "DRUG PUSHERS IN SEASIDE" is very inflammatory.

Yeah, I agree that this thread is ridiculous! Wherever you have humanity, you will have humanities foibles. I firmly believe Seaside is safer and more wholesome then most places. Is it perfect, of course not. It definitely shouldn't be portrayed as a drug dealers haven because *gasp* some teenagers were smoking pot!

This thread is hilarious. Here I was thinking that the Seaside "drug pushers" were all the businesses giving out candy to all the kids on Halloween. It has been said that if sugar were introduced to society today, for the first time, it would be classified as a drug by the FDA.

Is this the same friend whose future rocket scientists swapped a shopping list of things to steal from their house for cigarettes? :roll:My first answer to your question was incorrect. They didn't swap items for cigarettes -- they paid cash. Rather, they were bragging about some items they owned, they were naive enough to let the kids know where they were staying, and the items were stolen that night. My friend assumes the items were stolen by the kids who sold them the cigs.
