I agree. Assuming can be bad. One of the first lessons we learn.

III Corps and lots of Ft Hood units have deployed and redeployed. They have some high demand/low density units that have deployed or currently on their 4th deployment.

There are a lot of military servicemembers with foreign names that are American citizens of naturalized citizens. We have actively recruited them in specialty programs. We have recruited a few bad eggs, but most are quickly found.

These guys are just snapping. As I said the other night "throw in the divorce word" and it is even tougher for them.

I pray for all families involved.

Malik Nadal Hasan (PHOTO): Key Details Emerge About Fort Hood Shooting Suspect

LARA JAKES and PAM HESS | 11/ 5/09 09:26 PM |

WASHINGTON — The Army psychiatrist suspected of carrying a shooting rampage at Fort Hood, Texas, had come to the attention of authorities six months ago because of Internet postings that discussed suicide bombings and other threats, law enforcement officials said Thursday.

The postings appeared to have been made by Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, who was wounded during the shootings at the Army post that killed 12 soldiers and wounded at least 30 others. A Fort Hood spokesman had earlier said Hasan was killed....

One of the Web postings that authorities reviewed is a blog that equates suicide bombers with a soldier throwing himself on a grenade to save the lives of his comrades.
"To say that this soldier committed suicide is inappropriate. Its (sic) more appropriate to say he is a brave hero that sacrificed his life for a more noble cause," said the Internet posting. "Scholars have paralled (sic) this to suicide bombers whose intention, by sacrificing their lives, is to help save Muslims by killing enemy soldiers."...

Retired Army Col. Terry Lee told Fox News that he worked with Hasan, who had hoped Obama would pull troops out of Afghanistan and Iraq. Lee said Hasan got into frequent arguments with others in the military who supported the wars, and had tried hard to prevent his pending deployment.

Hasan was single with no children. He was born in Virginia and graduated from Virginia Tech University, where he was a member of the ROTC and earned a bachelor's degree in biochemistry in 1997. He received his medical degree from the military's Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Md., in 2001. He did his internship, residency and a fellowship at Walter Reed. Sounds like a pretty safe assumption to me

"Shoot first, ask questions later" is what has gotten this country into trouble in the past. Some things and people never change. Americans are a dream come true for any potential terrorists- we have become a nation that becomes quickly frighten and will jump on a conspiracy theory in a nano second.

True, but I could possibly consider this act to be a form of domestic terrorism depending on the shooter's motives. The devastating results are the same if nothing else. I would feel no better knowing that some of those around us have an agenda and are ready to lash out than if it were the Taliban or Al Quaeda. But you are so right about the conspiracy theory thing and our gullibility.

That's unfortunate, not justification for his actions.

Did I say it was justification? I'm simply pointing out one of many things that could have driven this crazy murdering idiot over the edge along with all the other stress on todays military.

No, you didn't state it was. I was simply stating in my opinion, it wasn't.

That was a twist I wasn't expecting - thought it was going to be all about how many folks had dropped the ball, had their hands tied, or ignored the warning signs ala Virginia Tech shooter.

What doesn't seem to be said about this incident is: who was his imediate superior officer. I thought the whole system of the military is for an officer to be responsible for the physical and mental readiness of the men under his command. I hate to sound mean about it, but his commanding officer had a responsibility and a duty to know how all his men were doing. In other words, where was his boss, when he was giving these inflamatory speeches and encountering the bigotry he was being subjected to? There is a chain of command, and there should be accountability.

Yea. Just heard that too on Hannity.

Hmmm.. maybe Obama learned something from the first incident to the second. I like a President that learns from experience.

Good thing no one died in the Campridge "misunderstanding".

Maybe Ft. Hood is a serious matter that warrants special care and the cambridge cop incident isn't, just my guess.

Wait! So, Hasan was not killed? I have not followed it that closely, but I just heard that he may now be a paraplegic. And, due to the sensitivity of the ties to terrorists, we might offer him a plea to gain more info. as opposed to going for the death penalty.

I am OK with this, but will he talk? Final sign off will be President Obama.
