Does anyone wear just one contact lens for reading (instead of reading glasses)? This is called monovision. If you do, how long did it take you to get used to the distortion in your vision? This seems strange, walking out of an eye doctor's office with impaired vision, and the doctor saying you will adjust to the imbalance of the two eyes. :idontno:

My husband fought with the monovision thing for months before he gave up. Back to regular lenses and reading glasses now. Hopefully it will work for you. I will be facing that decision soon myself.

Now I'm very curious. Having never had to wear glasses or contacts before, I now am having to occasionally wear reading glasses. But now that's getting troblesome with having to constantly take them off, put them on, place them on the end of my nose, etc., just so I can see everything else. So, this monovision/one contact is a possibilty? I might just check into it.

These and the Acuvue Bifocal contacts can take a while to get used to. My friend got the bifocal contacts, I use monovison. I was good after a few weeks, my friend took longer. My doctor acted like I'd be good after a few days. It did take longer than he promised, everyone is different. Good luck

My friend has contacts like that and she said she eventually got used to it and now likes the convenience. Although she still needs to wear reading glasses for close work!

I have very poor vision. The way I deal with it is to use my contacts for long distance sight, with reading glasses for close work. I have reading glasses permanently parked at the kitchen table and the computer. I've made myself get in the habit of leaving them there so I don't drive myself crazy looking around the house for misplaced glasses. My prescription eyeglasses are pretty well useless for long distance sight but excellent for up close work. On days when I know I have to do a lot of either reading or writing, I wear my eyeglasses all day long. I used to be really vain about people seeing me in glasses but now I don't care. I only want to see what I need to see!

I used to wear glasses or contacts all the time. The closer I got to 40 my eyes started getting better, to the point I didn't need glasses except at night to drive. My doctor said I was a "flipper" - distance got better, but in return I couldn't see to read. I am so tired of keeping up with all these different glasses, glasses to drive at night, reading glasses, sunglasses, reading sunglasses. I thought this might just make things easier, but now I'm not sure.

You should at least try it. I have had monovision for a couple of years now and it works for me. It took about a week for my eyes to adjust - it was like wearing 3-D glasses. It sure beats the hassle of glasses on-glasses off!!! The only time I need reading glasses is for doing close up work such as threading needles (something I rarely do anymore-maybe once or twice a year) or when reading fine print in dim light such as a map in a car at night or a menu by candlelight. For me, the advantages have far outweighed the disadvantages. The only way you will know for sure if it will work for you is if you try it. Good luck!!!

Not to mention the hassle of lost glasses. I was forever losing mine. The kids thought that was the funniest thing. Ungrateful offspring, laughing at their only mom

i can see fine with my contacts, but with my glasses i have one eye i can see close up with and one eye sees better farther away. it's fun trying to cross-stitch or read a book - i am too big of a chicken to try the laser surgery tho - we were just discussing that today at the beauty shop.

I don't even attempt to cross-stitch anymore. I always stitched on linen, no way now. I have thought of taking up knitting, people seem to do that while watching tv.

You gulls need to find one of those magnifying lamps. My mom used one all the time for handwork. I hate to see anyone give up a craft they enjoy because of thier sight!

I was kind of tired of doing that anyway. But I now enjoy SoWalling.:clap_1:
