Govt: Medicare paid $47 billion in suspect claims - Yahoo! News
I couldn't find a good excerpt, the whole article is worth a read. General summary - through new reporting guidelines set by the Obama administration, real fraud last year estimated to be 47 billion in Medicare, 18.1 billion in Medicaid, for a toal of around 70 billion. The administration is ramping up efforts to curb fraud through a number of measures. Good to see!

IMO cracking down on fraud, waste, and general incompetence will go a long way towards balancing the budget and reducing our deficits.
Also, there are a lot of perks and items that politicians expect the taxpayers and CEOs expect the stockholders to pick up the tab for - I think that system also deserves a long hard look and some changes.
