Considering their annual income, about 22 billion, I suppose that's not bad, but I think they could do better. Microsoft gave away nearly 500 million in 2008 through a program where they match employee donations to charitable organizations. The year before that they donated nearly 450 million.

Of course both of these companies surpass a number of other Silicon Valley tech giants when it comes to charitable giving. One of the worst would be Apple, which donates little if at all.

Is that just their corporate donation? Or does it include matching etc. ?

I'm not sure but I think it was just a Christmas gift. I got an email and I think it is for advertising partners - so by visiting this site y'all helped.

Also, if you are going to make a personal donation to any charity, you only have a few more days to do so and claim it as a 2009 tax deduction. Just a reminder.
On another note, for all you Walmart naysayers, some of who intimated that they were short on charity donations, in 2008 they donated over 400 million to charities. I don't know about you but I consider that a pretty hefty amount to help those in need.
