That, too! They inch it out a week every few years or so - when it hits March, I'll really be ticked!

I'm with ya, LuLu. January is just blah. Followed closely by March--wind, ides of March, etc. St. Patrick's can be kinda funn though.

You nailed it! It is freezing, and I see no reason for temps to be stay in the 20's unless I get some serious snow!!! Meanwhile I just freeze for no good reason. The only bright side is that it IS closer to summer!!!

Sounds like you need to get down here for the 30A Songwriters Festival, taking place on MLK, Jr weekend. That will cheer your otherwise cold January.

that is the right 'tude SJ. there is always something wonderful to look forward to it seems.

it seems to me that most people have a slump in winter and that's perfectly understandable. especially after all the holiday hype. cold sets in and our active lifestyles kind of come to a halt. shorts and flip flops are not cutting it for the most part. days are short. the weather is dreary much of the time.

winter can start getting dreary and just too long after February. but for me, January has some very wonderful aspects, including the promise of a new fresh year where anything is possible. its freezing "A" here at the moment, but I'm going to go enjoy the fireplace and do that reading I've been looking forward to all day..

on the downside, this new cold is not at all one of the things I enjoy about winter! yuck!

I say good riddance to January. Now, we're one month closer to SUMMER!!

We normally spend a lot of time at the beach in January. But this year every time we decide to drive down, the weather report looks less than exciting. I mean, I can be stuck indoors with rain and gray skies in GA without having to buy two tanks of gas. We did drive down last weekend even though the weather forecast was not great so we could take down the Christmas tree. We had planned to drive down on Thursday. But the weather report didn't look good.

If my memory serves me correctly, in past Januarys at the beach there have been more sunny days than this year. It's nice to walk on the beach in a sweatshirt on those days, even when it's cool outside. But no way I'm gonna head out for a walk if I'm not sure whether or not there will be rain before I get home.

I am just so tired of the gray skies and excessive rain that we've had here in GA since August. And at the beach this month.

Don't have SAD. Just not a fan of Jan being so long and this one was particularly rough! We had a couple of nice days and that helps break the frigid days and nights. But, most weekends this month were plain miserable.....thankfully, I was out and about the one nice Sat. we had!

We should have some nice days in Feb......can't wait~~~~~

I hear ya. We seem to always have sort of scheduling conflict that prevents us from being there on the sunny days.

We flew kites on the beach Tuesday and went fishing Wednesday (Jackie caught her first fish!)

maybe we need to have a wine-fest. well, okay I admit - Allifunn, franny and I have had a few of those lately - contributing to a funn start to the year.

oh, we have had some gorgeous days this month - several! we've spent a lot of time beach combing - our favorite winter outdoor activity.
we've also had lots of cold rainy days - really good sleep - catching up on some really good movies - and not shaving my legs hardly at all!

although I enjoyed some of the indoor rainy cold days, I admit it does get a little old after a while. so then we just make ourselves get out even in the cold and rain. it ain't gonna kill ya to drive over to Fort Walton Beach to a lego class at the emerald Coast science center, then play in the park next to the sound - the adults may be freezing but the kids just don't care, and then go to Big Daddy's to get some of Donna's most outstanding Thai food ever on the planet. and then back home for warm and fuzzy pajamas, a fire, and another good movie.

yes 'tis time to move on. Goodbye January. Hello February - which is really no different than January weather wise, is it? in fact, it may be a little drearier in typical years. This year isn't that typical. January was very much like our usual February.

So, maybe DD will get her wish! maybe spring is coming early. we will all be ready for it when it gets here.

On February 2, we will know.

Well, I love January. It's my birthday month. The hustle and bustle of the holidays are over. I go to SoWal a little more, go visit friends a little more, because things slow down a little at work. January means it's really winter for me and I can wear all my heavy sweaters or clothes, I only get to wear for a few months of the year. I stay home more(inside) and get organized during the first month of every year. I read more.

I'm not an August person, too hot, ready for a break from the heat and the ac bills.

We just had a few tiny, tiny flurries. :shock:
