Su Wong marries Lee Wong. The next year, the Wongs have new baby. The nurse brings out a lovely, healthy, bouncy,
but definitely a Caucasian, WHITE baby boy.

'Congratulations,' says the nurse to the new parents. 'Well Mr. Wong, what will you and Mrs. Wong name the baby?'

The puzzled father looks at his new baby boy and says, 'Well, two Wong's don't make a white, so I think we will name him...

I worked for Richard Head. Only we called him Dick. True, loved it when they called him over the intercom system. Always a good chuckle unless he was close by.

My BFF is Kelly Kelly. Actually her name is Kelly Ann Kelly.
I had a student named Suerratt. I asked her how she pronounced it and she said "Silly Lot" I was sad to inform her that the R says rrrrr and her name is pronounced "Sewer Rat" ~ The next day her mom came in and asked me to call her by her middle name, Yolk.

When I worked at SallieMae there was a list that went around with funny names. There were the usual suspects, but the 3 that stood out the most were:

Hung Lo
Kathy Pretty On Top (her account had the name change paperwork when she did this, it was changed to exactly the way it is typed)
Velvetta Bacon

The best though was working as a proctor in a computer lab at FSU when a girl with the name Cliche came in. I couldn't help it after looking at her ID and asked her to pronounce it. She pronounced it exactly the way you would. Apparently in 20 years of living she had never bothered to look up the definition.

One of the best two sport (volleyball, track and field) stars at the NCAA level in recent years is Destinee Hooker. Why would you name a child something that sounds like she's fated for the pole?

Good one, Mermy!

I was asking one of my classes if they had ever known anyone with a strange name. One of them said that she knew someone in high school with the name pronounced "SaFEELis," but spelled "Syphilis." She asked the girl how she got her name. Apparently her Mom was at the OB/GYN while she was pregnant and saw a poster on the wall. She didn't know what it meant and thought it would be a pretty name.

When I told daughter, she (and then I) started laughing so hard that we cried. After she composed herself, she said, "Actually, Clamidia is a much prettier name."

One of hubby's physician's old friends (did their residencies at the same time at Massachusetts General) was named Richard Root, but was known as Dick Root. Seriously.

Sadly, Dick was eaten by a crocodile while on a wildlife tour of Africa. Just Google dick root crocodile.
