Where are the people that were protesting in 1966, while I was serving my country in VietNam, now? Some are in the Executive branch and some advising it. I don't see any of them greatly affected by their political beliefs anymore than I think I would be. I don't own a weapon, though I am thinking of buying one, so I don't stockpile ammo, I don't deny the legitimacy of our President, though I think most of his policies are a road to disaster and your interpretation of massive changes to government and mine are probably much the same. Teabaggers, except for the typical fringe element attached to any political group, are citizens fed up with a non-responsive federal government and want more responsibility and funding returned to their respective states. They believe Congress is broken and run by a bunch of self centered, self serving individuals who listen to absolutely no one but their closed circle. I suggest the next time you wish to learn about the Tea Party and their positions, you go directly to the source.
You may contact Mary Brown at 520-4229 or condomimi@AOL.com or attend a Tea Party Patriots meetin the 2nd Thursday of the month at the Coastal Library meeting room, 7:00 P.M. I plan to attend the next one as I just did my taxes and am throughly fed up with not only those but our federal government in general.
It just so happens they're all white and waited until a black president was elected to speak up. Purely coincidence I'm sure.
Thus far they seem to be enjoying their freedoms pretty well. It'd be interesting to see what happened to a large group of armed citizens in any other country protesting the government.

And who elected all those people? They got there (and were returned there) because they got a majority of the vote and people liked what hey were doing.

I didn't and if people like what they are getting now, there is much in this country that needs to be changed. Yes, they were voted in but that does not mean we must immediately agree with what they propose or accept what the feed us. All Americans, even me, are entitled to express their feelings and opinions and I am not so stupid as to not realize they are "elected" officials. That doesn't mean I am obligated to agree with what is going on in Washington, D.C. or Tallahassee, Florida or even Walton County. I hope you get my drift.

My point is that most of the politicians the tea party folks are supposedly mad at have been there for multiple terms. Their typical decisions, actions, and opinions have not changed - just your opinion/realization of them.

Further I have yet to hear of a letter writing campaign or them making phone calls to their elected representatives. The representatives aren't deaf, you're just not talking. A representative will make a decision based on their constituents wishes, but they're also going by what can be documented. Protests of random and possibly unregistered voters aren't going to sway a representatives decisions.

This morning's "Fresh Air" on public radio had a very interesting interview about the Tea Party group and CPAC...enlightening as to how they are funded and where they get their ideas and issues.

I listened to half of the 32 minute segment and will only say it was in no way an indicative description of those supporting the tea party movement that I know in Walton County. He portrayed his opinion as one of the tea party moving further to the right. On some points, maybe, but overall nothing could be further from the truth. They are moving away from the Rush Limbaughs, not toward them, IMO.

The footage of the local protest on the PC news seemed very grass roots and more like your kind of event - Dems & Republicans, well spoken & intelligent ................... until they started railing about the Ivy League Elite taking over our government.
Trivia question: what percentage of Florida's current elected State and Federal Politicians have Ivy League degrees?

I've heard/read quite a bit that it is not really a group--at least not yet--or it is several different groups. It does appear, though, that Dick Armey and Freedom Works is attempting to co-op the movement by providing money and talking points/issues...at least from several things I've read.
Seems similar to what happened to some of the church groups--

It is still an evolving movement but it would seem that some with specific and unwanted agendas are attempting to take it over. I am hopeful it will flourish and succeed as the main points they emphasize are right on track.

why would anyone call themselves "teabaggers"?
they should not be taken seriously.
