TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) -- Estimated reserves in Florida waters would provide the United States with less than a week's worth of oil and have no discernible effect on prices at the pump or U.S. reliance on foreign oil, says a report released Friday as part of a state Senate review of whether a ban on offshore drilling should be lifted.

Which is exactly what we were told by everyone EXCEPT the oil companies during the discussions of the issue and Hands Across the Sand.

The report is the latest indication that the push to open Florida waters as near as three miles from the state's beaches may be waning, at least for this year.
Another is that all 12 lobbyists for Florida Energy Associates, a group pushing for lifting the ban have withdrawn, according to the Legislature's lobbyist registry.
Buh-bye now, don't let the door hit you in the rump!
Great news, but we have to keep an eye on these buggers.

Well, I still believe that the main purpose behind the push to open Florida's near shore to oil and gas drilling is to set a precedent for the Federal Government to open the federal waters to oil and gas drilling.
Up to now, our state and federal government officials, including former Republican governors, have been very successful in protecting our federal waters from oil exploration. But if the State decides to open up the near-shore waters, we would be hard-pressed to argue that our federal waters need protection.
I truly believe that this is the strategy of the group that calls themselves "Florida Energy Associates." Get the "less valuable" state waters so that the federal waters will fall.
The fact that is appears that "Florida Energy Associates" is backing off right now makes me happy, but also makes me a little nervous, as the group is probably figuring out a new strategy.
This fight is not over -- it has only just begun.

We sure do--because you can bet they are looking for a "back door" way to get in!
