Do y'all go just once a week or do you stop off for something every day?

As an experiment, we have joined a farmer's co-op for the spring and summer. For 26 weeks, we will pick up whatever fresh produce they are providing that week. I suspect we will be sharing ALOT with friends since a) there are only two of us and b) I am not particularly vegetable oriented and c) I don't cook much- however, DH does. He is the one who really wants to try this so we shall see!

I would love to join a co-op like this. I wish my family still farmed; there is nothing better than fresh veggies year 'round, knowing there's no junk on them.

I picked up some delicious organic navels at Whole Foods last week. Two oranges = 5US!

Is that two oranges for $5.00? Is that what this says?

Yep, that would be why Canoehead calls the place "Whole Paycheck".

It is really easy to freeze veggies. Then you can have them year round. Pulled out some squash from this summer the other day. It was the best thing I had in a while.

Well, this thread has sufficiently jinxed me. I just went to two stores, but forgot the main reasons I went: bread, eggs and toilet paper.

Three times in one day! Oh well, I'll get an extra lottery ticket.

you could've cruised down to the turnpike and pulled two off the tree for cheaper than that.

Usually just once each week for the "big" family shopping and then filling in only if necessary. But I always get the Publix Breakfast bread when I'm in SoWal or other parts of Florida and now I take some extra loaves home. And I just looked up the recipe for it online and found some recipes that people think are close to the Publix breakfast bread, but I haven't tried baking them yet. Two slices of that bread is supposed to be equal to one serving of fruit with all the raisins, dried apples, and dried apricots. I love that bread. I'm drooling.

 Clearly, I violated a cardinal rule here. I couldn't help it, but I won't do it again. They were $2.99/lb! Delicioso!

I bought a grapefruit, too.

You need to venture over to one of the older Publix's in PC that has a nice bakery lady from back when they actually baked everything in the store. Show her some attention and kindness and that recipe is yours. ;-)

Ran by Trader Joe's today and guess what? Picked up two navels for $1.18US. I don't recall an 'organic' sign, but Trader Joe's chooses only the freshest and best and when I receive their magazine, everything in it is organic. And, they didn't entice me with yummy samples, thus driving up the cost as well.

Everything was cheaper than Publix except for the dairy. I was graciously amazed! Wahoo~~~~~ Might be my new standard!

once a week and just like house chores i despise it.:pissed: i need a drink.

:lolabove:

Totally understand. There's just two of us and if I leave the shopping/cooking up to Mr. DD, here's what it ALWAYS is:

steak
baked potato

bagged salad...:puke:(which he NEVER remembers I hate)

Hence, I do most of the shopping and cooking. He does help load the dishwasher though.

:lolabove: so true...

and THAT reminds me of that old email about men hosting a get together and receiving gushing cudos because "oh whoopee aren't they wonderful 'cuz they threw a piece of flesh on the grill"... no seasoning, no sides, no dessert, no plates, no silverware, no napkins, no cleanup... but oooo aren't they just the most glorious host evah??

KDW & BR: I SO share your fury over the "I don't care" crowd who back-end complain. My Mom didn't ask, made the decisions, and if you didn't like her choices she always had a saucer of white bread on the table that she'd pass you while saying "thankyou, you're welcome"!

I remember when a trip to Destin was required to shop at a decent grocery store. I used to shop 1x per month back then. Seems like I didn't spend as much or waste as much when I only shopped once a month... but I ate out more often back then too... so it's probably a wash.
