HBO: The Pacific will premiere on March 14. Before that, several "premieres" are being held. Hawaii hosted one of the early events. This Saturday, March 6, Fredericksburg, Texas, will host HBO: The Pacific at the Nimitz Museum located there at The National Museum of the Pacific War. Attending will be RV Valton, Marine, and Holly Rees, Army. RV and Holly recently reunited with other veterans and toured the Pacific with the WW II Museum organization located in New Orleans. RV lives south of Dallas where he and Holly recently enjoyed a visit. RV will be signing copies of his book at 1 p.m. The Holly Rees book from the "Army" perspective will be published soon. Rees was shot in Okinawa. While Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg did not attend the Hawaii premier, it will be drama as to who shows up in Texas. That Oscar show going on in LA may be a conflict. Gary Goetzman, Hanks and Speilberg collaborated on this 10 part HBO event.

RV Valton, Marine, and Holly Rees, Army, WW II Pacific Veterans, will attend the HBO: The Pacific premiere in Fredericksburg, Texas. They are at RV's home near Dallas in this photograph. Fredericksburg is about 8 miles from Luckenbach, Texas. Fredericksburg was the hometown of Adm. Nimitz.

Three words...Band of Brothers

Spielberg and Hanks did that one, as well, and it is outstanding! I can't image that they are giving this project any less respect and depth as Band o' Bros. I can't wait until it comes out...

How are you connected to Holly Rees? Is he Lane's father / uncle, or is the name a coincidence?

 Hi SC. Yes, his dad.

Like so many of us, we had fathers, uncles, aunts and great cousins who fought in WWII. Sadly, many of these heroes are no longer with us. We can share their pictures and stories. Opportunities are fading to visit and talk with this generation. Since you are an "airplane" guy, here's a picture of Holly's brother, Gilbert Rees. Gilbert, Navy, was on the U.S.S. Princeton and was a 'radioman'. After the war, he worked for Howard Hughes.

Can't wait to see the television series HBO - The Pacific. It is probably from the Marine point of view. Holly's story details the Army version. Maybe someone will do a movie about it one day. They were, and still are, quite competitive about their particular branch of service. Even today, Holly told how they jested on their recent Pacific WWII cruise. Holly's friend, R.V. Valton Burgin -- left out his last name on earlier post.

Sadly will have to miss this, don't have HBO. But will check into reading the books.

Both myself and my husband enjoy the true stories of the War. Two uncles were pilots and my hometown was located on a large air force base.

We've just spent the last month watching the entire series (by way of Netflix) and you are right. Is IS magnificent and tragic and heroic and entirely gripping. It's made me interested in reading more about World War II and Easy Company in particular.

If this new series is even half as good as Band of Brothers, it will be must-see viewing.

Very cool! If the picture doesn't say it on the back and if you didn't already know, I'm 99.9999% sure that he is standing in front of a Grumman TBM (or TBF) Avenger...

Holly Rees, still able to get into his WWII uniform, at book signing during The Pacific premiere at the Nimitz Museum. R.V. Burgin, middle, and Sid Phillips on right. The Pacific continues on HBO.

The show is very good - I like the interviews they do in the intro the best.

I love the fact that it's based on real historical battles. I've been reading up on the progress of the war via wikipedia.
