Jesus Would Have Been in Favor of Healthcare Reform.

I spent all day in the car today. I listened to a lot of older, multimillionaire, angry, overwieght white guys on talk radio 101 trying to strike fear deep in the hearts of Americans regarding Healthcare Reform. How can their listeners, who probably need it the most, be against something that is in their own self interest? How did Americans get so 'fearful."

Healthcare reform will pass, it must pass, and like the historical Voting Rights Act of 1964, Social Security, and Medicare to name a few....we will all wonder how we managed to live without it? If Socialists are the ones that care about the poor, or those without adequet access, then I guess I too, have Socialistic tendencies, just like Jesus.

The first problem I see with this statement is "if Jesus were here". The Word was made flesh and dwelt among us, therefore He is here. He's the Word. If you want to know what He thinks, then read His book. Secondly, Jesus will not support the taking of the life of the unborn, nor placing on individuals burdens that are too heavy to bear, ie the cost of this proposed plan. As I understand, the bottom price per family will be about $12,000 per year. The Word says "The truth will set you free", however, sometimes the truth is not what you want to hear.

Great to see the Nuns speaking up for health care... http://www.nytimes.com/2010/03/20/health/policy/20abortion.html?src=me&ref=health
Sister Simone, who described herself as anti-abortion, said she did not believe that the Senate version of the bill would make abortion more widely available. She did not directly criticize the bishops, but said “some people could be motivated by a political loyalty that’s outside of caring for the people who live at the margins of health care in society.”

Will be interesting to see if a consequence of this whole debate is some dramatic change in the workings of the Catholic Church.

Op-Ed Columnist - Eraser Duty for Bart? - NYTimes.com

We might have to bang Bart’s head into a blackboard a few times before he realizes that in a moral tug-of-war between the sisters and the bishops, you have to go with the gals.

Signs of JC being among us now aren't found in any book, IMHO. Instead just look for christ like acts of good and ordinary people among us.

I like how the Catholic nuns (women) recently came out in support of the new Healthcare legislation in direct defiance of the US Conference of Catholic Bishops (male dominated).

If you deal directly in the day to day needs of the sick, poor, and dying as many of these nuns do (many of whom are are also health professionals) your mindset changes on the subject.

Ha- not my typical post, I know. But let me clarify.

I believe Jesus existed somewhere around 2000 years ago. He did good and inspired others to do the same. And I believe he was tortured for what he preached.

I've said it on other threads- Jesus to me is sort of a William Wallace (Braveheart) kind of dude.

So what I am saying is-

irrespective of what organized religion claims about the guy or what old books found in caves (that were translated too many times to be taken literally) say,,,

people doing good things, people being kind-

Better to be christ like than to be christian. two cents...

There was a time when conservatives didn't believe that the government created jobs, but of course now that health care might finally get reformed the number one priority should be government creating jobs.

I think the #1 priority should be paying down the debt. Government does not create wealth, it only seizes it and squanders it. That is why our forefathers envisioned a limited federal government that was was held in check by a balance of power between the branches and powerful states that were given substantial power. Over the years we have eroded those protections and now we are reaping what we have sown.

No he didn't, once again someone is prepared to start thrashing people with a book they know very little about.

Forget the book. Beware of those flying planes into IRS buildings. People are pissed and demand to be heard.

The secret service is working overtime.

I always thought that the left were the bomb-throwers, but we went through eight years of W without an assassination attempt, violent anti-way protests that ended in riots or anything else too loony.

The GOP has been the opposition for about a year, and we have Congressmen shrugging their shoulders over the IRS bombing and the protesters threatening to shoot anyone who disagrees with them, saying, "It's the Democrats fault, they drove them to it.".

Honestly, we all went nuts when respectable Muslims refused to immediately condemn every jihadist bomber, but one of our own political party refuses to do the same thing when we have domestic terrorists.

I think it's pathetic.

Let's hope our Revolution is civil, with no attempts on the President's life. Certainly not by Americans. That is very upsetting to me.

I hope you don't really believe this, and if you do I hope you don't have access to a plane. If you are that pissed there are thousands of forums where misery loves company. Let's keep nutty talk off our forum. We're not interested in attracting nuts, or feds.

Crashing planes into IRS buildings? It would be cheaper for those protesting to go to jail and get free prison food and shelter, by refusing to not pay for their gov't required insurance, for those who wish to make a statement. Let's see... someone has to make a choice in hard times, to pay rent or buy the gov't required health insurance?

Are any of you aware of the pilot who crashed his plane into the IRS building a month ago on purpose?

Kurt i appreciate your concern but I'm well grounded. My point was I'm concerned about more crazies getting more viscious in their attempts to be heard. They exist on both sides of the aisle. Bill Ayers is alive and kicking and he bombed the Pentagon and the Capitol in '71 & '72. Sadly a lot of people think he is sane.

Luckily Beck and Limbaugh are keeping them in check. :sarc:

And on the other side....many people think that Timothy McVeigh and Joseph Stack are sane.....

Seems that most radical americans who try to take massive amounts of lives to prove their point have strong conservative philosopies...

Yes, I am well aware of him - he was an arsehole whose idiocy and unwillingness to take responsibility for HIS choices and decisions endangered innocent lives and caused a great deal of unneccessary damage, costs, and fear.

If you see ANYTHING of value in his actions or share his opinions, I feel very sorry for you.

Did Jesus write a book?

It was a (Holy) Ghost-written biography.

As for the nuns, a number of orders are currently getting increased scrutiny from the Vatican because they're still in post-Vatican II liberalization mode despite the Rome home office's rightward shift in recent years.

Over five thousand years ago, Moses said to the children of
Israel, "Pick up your shovel, mount your asses and camels,
and I will lead you to the Promised Land."

Nearly 75 years ago, Roosevelt said, "Lay down your shovels,
sit on your asses, and light up a camel, this is the
Promised Land."

Now Obama has stolen your shovel, taxed your asses, raised
the price of camels and mortgaged the Promised Land!

I was so depressed last night thinking about Health Care
Plans, the economy, the wars, lost jobs, savings, Social
Security, retirement funds, etc . . . I called Lifeline. Got
a call center in Pakistan. I told them I was suicidal.

They got all excited and asked if I could drive a truck....

yea real shame that the feds increased the taxes on your cancer sticks to provide funding for the Children's Health Insurance Program. And in regards to mortgaging the Promise Land.....most of that was done on the "W" watch.....
