The backlash is coming. Time won't change the disgust and betrayal the majority of people feel.

I agree with your post, but not your title. I think our disgust with politicians, politricks, and big government is not confined to just one party.

Am hoping this pervasive mood will bring positive changes and improvement in our government at all levels.

funny, last night i had an intelligent conservative republican admit to me that the republicans never gave our president a chance from the get go and were bound and determined to block everything he tried to do. i've been saying it all along...this country is going to hell but not because of the dems. the republican hypocrisy is amazing, especially locally since we really only have a one party town right now so there is no REAL choice. i would be no happier if the dominance came from the dems. how about some balance in okaloosa and walton county?

all and all, i see a bunch of poor sports nationally because of the lost election and plenty of racism to go around. obviously, president obama thought he could bring everyone together but when a group (extreme right wing) thinks because they kept bush in office for 8 years, they can continue on, they will do anything to block whatever they can, whether or not it is good for the country.

as for the health care issue, i know a local who has to get her own insurance. she was paying $565 per month with a $5,000 deductible. now that she is relocating, she has been informed that it willl go up to $868. this is for one person. yeah, and our healthcare system doesn't need fixing.

There will be backlash, but I suspect in the end, many of the Tea Party's pet candidates will be seen as too extreme by a lot of Americans.

FL Sen Poll: Rubio 41, Meek?40 - Real Clear Politics – TIME.com

Summary

Rubio 58; Crist 30 for the Republican primary

General election gets interesting-

Crist 45; Meek 36; Undecided 19

Rubio 41; Meek 40; Undecided 19

So we've got a guy who most voters aren't overly familiar with, and he closes a ten point gap and gets well into the margin of error when his opponent changes. Which would suggest a good number of general election voters already have an issue with Rubio even when his opponent is not widely known.

I am sure conservatives gave Obama about the same chances that liberals gave Bush.

The country's problem is that Bush turned out to be no conservative. Bush crippled the country with runaway deficits and an unnecessary war, not to mention the disasters of No Child Left Behind, Medicare Prescriptions plans and unenforced immigration laws. Add in the Patriot Act and massive government takovers of private enterprise and you have the most liberal administration in memory.

The problem with Obama is not his race, his place of birth or that he won the election. His problem is that he has exacerbated an already bad situation. The health care bill will run up the deficit and add to an already crippling burden on our children. We should always beware of promises to pay for programs with "savings." Savings as far as government is concerned rarely happen.

As to the future, most people I talk with do not agree with the Democrats and do not trust the Republicans. They do not know where to turn. That might be the most dangerous problem the country faces.

I agree with almost all of what you both said. However, I do disagree that liberals did not give Bush a
decent chance. After the attack on the towers, I think most Americans supported the president--not because he was Bush, necessarily, but because he was the president. The Congress trusted him enough to vote with him on the disaster that Iraq turned out to be...it was only after that, that the tide turned against Bush.
Had he not gone into Iraq, I think he would have still had most of the Dem's support--especially since he
turned out not to be so conservative after all.

This president inherited what "Bush not being conservative" andthe wars. cost us as a country..and no, he has not been given a decent chance by the Republican members of Congress or the Party.

Won't it be interesting if my some means, this reform actually does work...I wonder what would have happened if the two parties had actually worked together in good faith for the good of the country.

Yes, and we should just stupidly elect the Republican opposion party for their strong inability to bring anything to the table and for their consistently, uncreative ways of saying "No."

Real change is now beginning, finally! Everyone will come around to the Dems side eventually. Obama 2012!

The healthcare vote is not WHY we'll turn over seats in November and in 2012. It has more to do with balance of power - this healthcare bill, corruption, etc is only the catalyst this year and that's about it.

I voted for Obama along with many of my friends so he could bring our Country together. I truly believe we are more divided now than anytime other time in my lifetime. Are Republicans guilty? Maybe. But I voted for what i thought was a leader. You have to point the finger at those with all the power not the other way around. Why blame those that have no impact on passed policy?

The truth of the matter is Dems have held a majority of both houses for many years now. Republicans could show up naked wearing black socks and it wouldn't matter. It's simple math not smoke and mirrors folks.

I feel I was duped by a lying President and propaganda infused media. Did anyone out there realize also included in the healthcare bill is a complete takeover of the student loans system by the federal gov't? If you need money for school the Gov't will now be deciding who gets it and who doesn't. Seriously what is going on???? Why slide this in and why isn't the media covering it? I saw this posted in a friends private blog.

You Democrats have all your slogans and soundbites down but I would rather say no to a disaster than be the party of "me too" as the country goes down the toilet. Republicans got into trouble in the last 10 years by abandoning common sense and the Constitution and going along with the crowd.

Doesn't the change to the student loan system only cut out the middle man (because the money was already coming from the government) and save us money in the long run?

I don't watch Fox but perhaps I should start.

Why do liberals hate Fox news?

My understanding is the Federal gov't regulated just over 50% of student loans prior to todays vote.

Expect to see Obama's approval rating go back to the 50s very quickly after this passes. Part of his problem now is with his own base, but they'll soon be a little bit happier.

Yes. I used the William Ford Direct Loan program in grad school, and I feel like it was a better program than the mister's routed through banks federal student loans.

yeah, and where was the party of no then...and where were all those "true Americans" aka the Tea party...

why is it okay to run up the deficit to wage a war, but not okay to help people who need insurance.....

And your Repubs don't have slogans and soundbites...:floor:
I suppose it was a Democrat that said "Baby Killer" last evening....right...

Republicans got into trouble because of their errogance towards others and lost control. Now the democrats will feel the same....

Both sides have been guilty of this power trip and will continue to do so as long as we have only a two party system.

I think the obstructionist, negative positioning of the Republicans during this entire debate on Healthcare Reform will actually backfire on them in the 2010 November elections.

Revenge? This is about getting back to the freedoms our Constitution provides.

I'll vote for whoever is for smaller gov't regardless of party. Someone who is going to listen and vote the will of the people of my district.

For those that think the government is taking over student loans you're idiots. Student Loans are regulated by the Department of Education. You already have to be approved through a government process to determine need.

Student Loans are private capital provided primarily by banks. The money is then guaranteed by States first and then the US government. The qualifications are determined by the federal department of education and those qualifications don't change drastically from year to year. It's a fairly simple formula. The cost of the education minus the parental contribution based on taxes and whatever is left over you are eligible to borrow up to limits determined by your grade level.

SallieMae, the only private servicing agency large enough to mean anything is mostly concerned with loosing the originations and servicing monies generated by student loans. The biggest being interest subsidies on subsidized student loans. Direct Lending is the government branch that currently services about 50% of all student loans. Sallie Mae makes up the remaining 49% and the remainder are serviced by small state agencies and a handful of very small servicing companies.

SallieMae has been campaigning against this so heavily since it will cause their business to fail, not due to a government take over, but by the lost subsidies which will allow the loses of their private student loan portfolio to finally tighten the noose on them and choke them to death. SallieMae made a huge investment in private students loans, self insured them, and are now scrambling to hide the sky rocketing loses. Check out the reason that their various attempts at merging with banks have fallen through.

Again, to all those who say they're going to "take America back" in the upcoming elections, read conservative columnist David Frum's take on Obama's "Waterloo."
