Ruling Elite: The people WE elect
Socialism: Democracy when your NOT in power

Sorry to further harm your reputation, Andy (haha) but I like you too and had a GREAT time chatting with you over beers recently.Thank you, Geo, and I am open to repeat of such at any time. I, too, enjoyed the chat very much.
Right now we do not have a choice. Republican and Democrat are simply brands or fund-raising groups. Neither really stand for anything.
I will let others define the democrat ills but I know what the Republican woes are. For too long we chose candidates based on what they SAID they believed on certain narrow social issues (ex. abortion) as opposed to what they DID on those issues. Usually all they DID was give speeches; zero action. We did not care what they said or did on anything else as long as they gave great speeches. We even attempted to use GOVERNMENT to get what we wanted. This failure found it's ultimate expression in G.W. Bush, who said the right things about abortion and social issues but did nothing ,while spending the country into oblivion. But he is not the only example. There is a long list of "Republicans" from the national government to the state level and even the local level who think proper government requires more spending, more regulation and more involvement in our lives. These are not conservative principles. If you read the garbage coming from Tallahassee or attend any Commission , city council or School Board meeting in Okaloosa or Walton County you will see this in action.
More government is not the solution, it is the problem. I dare anyone to identify ONE "Republican" officeholder in Washington, Tallahassee or local government whose actions and policies say they believe that statement.
So the Republican solution is to put up a candidate, Sarah Palin, who will ignore major issues like the economy, war, and fine tuning health care to focus on those issues that have been neglected for so long?First of all, the last time I looked, she wasn't a candidate. That said, I suggest you listen to a speech from her, just one will do, before you start talking about what she says. Either you haven't "heard" her or you're not listening, one of the two.
