So what is the Tea Party?

Washington County Tea Party Faces Early Opposition

The Tea Party movement has been very vocal in its opposition of the Healthcare Reform Bill.
Some people in Washington County are trying to organize their own chapter, but are running into some opposition of their own.
But the group is refusing to let it stop them from pursuing its goal.
St. Theresa's Catholic Church was supposed to be the location for Washington County's first Tea Party meeting on March 18th.
But it never happened.
"It was pretty shocking to me to get a call from the Monseigneur that we had to cancel the meeting."
Diane Vitale claims someone called the Church Diocese in Pensacola, saying the group was using the church to host a political movement.
"They were threatening to destroy the status of tax exemption for the church."
Vitale and her friend, Karen Schoen, say the Tea Party is not politically motivated.
Both are members of Bay County's group and believe Washington County needs its own Tea Party.
"We were pleasantly surprised to find out that people in the county were very interested in the way their county was being run and the lack of information that was being disseminated from meetings," says Schoen.
Both Vitale and Schoen allege the county is misappropriating funds and failing to promote the possible economic development opportunities of the new Bay County Airport.
"So if we have limited means, they should be spent on things that will benefit the entire county, not just a few, not just for the whim of a few."
County officials would not comment on the subject pending a lawsuit over misappropriated funds.
Nor could we find anyone who is opposed to the Tea Party group meeting at the church.
"These people are not going to stop us from having a Tea Party that the community wants."

------------------------------------------------------
So apparently they aren't politically motivated, but only discuss politics and politicians. Just a local sampling.

It is the lowest base of the current Republican Party. It is anti-education, anti Healthcare, a majority hold racist opinions, a majority don't believe Obama was born in the U.S., a majority believe that Obama is of the Muslim faith, most can name the top five Nascar drivers, and a recent poll state 26% of this very" fun" group think Obama is the anti-Christ.

Whew...They are not the types of people I'd invite to my Spring Soiree!

Tea Party Poll

http://www.quinnipiac.edu/x1295.xml?ReleaseID=1436

Only 13 percent of American voters say they are part of the Tea Party movement, a group that has more women than men; is mainly white and Republican and voted for John McCain, and strongly supports Sarah Palin, according to a Quinnipiac University national poll released today.

Why Women Say they Joined the Tea Party

Women Reveal Their Reasons for Tea Partying - AOL News
What they discovered, as the 10 following microprofiles reveal, is that the anger, desire for empowerment, antipathy toward government and obsession with the Constitution that are fueling the tea party all cross gender lines.
http://www.nytimes.com//2010/03/27/opinion/27blow.html
President Obama and what he represents has jolted extremists into the present and forced them to confront the future. And it scares them.

Even the optics must be irritating. A woman (Nancy Pelosi) pushed the health care bill through the House. The bill’s most visible and vocal proponents included a gay man (Barney Frank) and a Jew (Anthony Weiner). And the black man in the White House signed the bill into law. It’s enough to make a good old boy go crazy.

IMO much of the fear that is being tapped into by the right wing comes from how quickly the world has gotten smaller via the Internet. We are now truly a global society, but many in this country and other countries, would prefer that not to be.
For lots of people, change is frightening...even if it's good for them.

Tea Party Advocates Who Scorn Socialism Want a Government Job - Bloomberg.com

Pretty good statistics actually - well educated, successful, a majority are women, and politically independent. Liberals seem to want to paint this group as something it's not, why is that?

A slide show from various protests tries to answer the same question:

10 Most Offensive Tea Party Signs And Extensive Photo Coverage From Tax Day Protests (PHOTOS)

Most of those seemed pretty tame.

For some reason Hitler is a popular caricature to use when insulting political leaders -

bush as hitler - Google Search

obama as hitler - Google Search

personally I wish people wouldn't do this, I find it rather offensive. Regardless of how you feel about Bush or Obama or any other political figure in our country, painting them as the most horrific historical figure of the modern age isn't appropriate.

AlphaCrab shouldn't be lecturing others about being racist. Check out your own racist comments. You can't have it both ways. Playing the race card while being racist.

Some people play the race card for a living. They will only get passed it when they realize they can't benefit from it.

Alpha crab you have become very tiresome with all your name calling. Let me guess? You are a poor white uneducated person who wants the government to give you every thing you can not earn yourself. You are a bleeding heart liberal who wants whatever feels good. If you are against Republicans then try to post intelligent ideas that might help us see your side of life. We might take you more serious if you did not have a devil picture.Have a nice day and enjoy.

A spring soiree? Will there be wine spritzers? I don't know any one in the Tea Party. Are they the same as tea-baggers? Do we really care what color they are, where they went to school, or whether the are male, female, gay, straight, rich, poor... One vote per person. Same as you and me.

Tea Party supporters skew right politically; but demographically, they are generally representative of the public at large. That's the finding of a USA Today/Gallup poll conducted March 26-28, in which 28% of U.S. adults call themselves supporters of the Tea Party movement.

Tea Party supporters are decidedly Republican and conservative in their leanings. Also, compared with average Americans, supporters are slightly more likely to be male and less likely to be lower-income.

In several other respects, however -- their age, educational background, employment status, and race -- Tea Partiers are quite representative of the public at large.

Over the past year, Tea Party movement activists -- originally kindled by grass-roots opposition to the economic stimulus bill and taxpayer bailouts of homeowners -- came out strongly against the Democrats' national healthcare reform plans. That stance is evident in the latest USA Today/Gallup poll, in which 87% of Tea Party supporters -- versus 50% of all Americans -- say they consider passage of healthcare reform a bad thing.

While opposition to the healthcare bill is perhaps the most distinctive characteristic of Tea Party supporters in the new poll, their views on abortion are also notable. Nearly two-thirds consider themselves "pro-life" on the abortion issue, compared with 46% of all national adults.

More generally, a separate question included in the March 26-28 poll showed that 37% of Americans view the Tea Party movement favorably and 40% unfavorably, with the remainder expressing no opinion. Predictably, Republicans and conservatives are most likely to have favorable opinions.

Tea Partiers Are Fairly Mainstream in Their Demographics

The DNC is playing a very dangerous game of chicken in trying to marginalize a group like this. Not so fat, not so white, but definitely angry.

It is constantly amazing to me how the elitist, wealthy, Conservative/Republicans, and their representatives, mangaged to hypnotize and tame the working class Americans to be self- marginalized, and vote against their own self interests. It is truly an amazing feat.:idontno: Seriously.
