What a dip$4!t. These ideological purists need to stay out of politics. These extreme libertarians are too naive to be taken seriously. He would repeal part of the 1964 civil rights act that forces establishments like restaurants and stores to desegregate. His argument is that since they are pirvate institutions they should be allowed to be as discriminatory as they please. Don't forget, this whack job wants to privatize EVERYTHING!

Methinks he needs a quick history lesson that includes Plessy v. Ferguson and it's overwhelmingly negative effects.
update: His attempts to spin this as "liberals smearing me" are going over like a lead balloon. Didn't help that he said similar things on NPR and specifically addressed ADA as well.
Which boiled down to: "Just give the guy in the wheelchair the office on the first floor instead of spending the extra money to put in an elevator."

So it looks like Paul has no problem erasing any progress that's been made since the Civil Rights Act. Oh, and he uses some really idiotic gun carrying argument. And he's the poster child for teabaggery!
update:The wheelchair argument was the least wacky thing he said.

According to Paul, desegregation was just some 45 year old Cinderella story. He thinks it's time for the coach to turn back into a pumpkin.

Yes--I guess there are even somewhat bright people in the racist Tea Party Movement.:idontno:
oh..and I am sure NOW, since he is a total Tea Partier, he will totally change his former stance on the immediate withdrawal of U.S troops from Iraq and Afganistan.
Politicians...all birds of a feather.

Probably not a dpsh(*
Probably just confused; probably not ignorant of the law as you all seem to be. It matters not whether the business/club, etc. is publicly or privately owned-it matters whether it is OPEN to the public. While the Act settled the matter as to lunch counters, and other PUBLIC businesses, the issue of private clubs has not been so settled and PLENTY of people(including me) believe you should be able to associate with whomever you want.
Libertarians are not that bad except on foreign policy issues where they just fail.

Rant Paul is talking about the lunch counter at Walgreens. That's not not a public business.

Rand Paul Defends Criticism Of Civil Rights Act To Rachel Maddow (VIDEO) | TPM LiveWire
Sounds to me that Rand thinks that a privately owned restaurant should be able to say "Hey, we don't serve your kind here."
Note how he doesn't say yes or no, he skirts the issues just as most politicians.
I'd be curious what other tea-party folk think about this.

PS For the record, I'm not impressed

Palin uses ignorance to skirt issues, Rant uses punditry.

It's the notion that you would be required to have it on your person and could be stopped and asked to show it at any time for no particular reason. If I go outside for a walk and either forget my ID or decide not to carry my wallet, that is my right and my business. What would be the point of national ID unless the next step is to require people to have it on their person?

Then maybe we should just have our ID #'s tattooed to our foreheads. :sarc: That way, we won't have to carry our wallets 😀

At what age do you apply the tatoo? A newborn's head is probably too soft, so I'd wait til about 6 mos. Even then the child's head is going to outgrow the tattoo and it would have to be reapplied. Small price to pay for security and liberty and justice for all.;-)

Right hand. If there is no right hand, then the left hand. If there is no left hand, then the forehead. They should have just skipped over all of that and put it on the buttocks!

He's been very succinct but severely misguided all along.

Not according to a wide range of people who seem to think I have to use them to prove my identify for a variety of reasons - lotto tickets, liquor, plane travel, banking, voting, entering the country, going into a federal building etc.

They're optional in that buying lotto tickets, liquor, banking, voting, driving etc. are optional.
