I had a wonderful dinner last night at my favorite local dive Mexican restaurant. It was the last time in this location as they have a new building across the street. I was/am sad that the old ambiance will not be there. I realize they needed more space, but love that old feeling. Guess I must just deal with change. Do you prefer old and character or new and splashy???

old and character -- but the people who work there usually love new and shiny!

definitely old and if you see a roach you know it has character.

Funky character (w/o health code violations) beats new and blah every time!

Everything they said above. Although I've been a Floridian most of my life, I realize that so much of Florida (with the exceptions of St. Augustine and perhaps Pensacola) are just not really old... ya know what I mean? Perhaps it's the hurricanes that seem to wash us away every decade or so...

I think everyone pretty much knows where I stand on this question.

Depends what kind of roach you're talking about.

la cucaracha. the only kind i know of.
That particular cockroach does have a reputation:
La cucaracha, la cucaracha,
ya no puede caminar
porque no tiene, porque le falta
MARIHUANA pa' fumar.

(translation:"the cockroach cannot walk because there is no more marijuana to smoke")

Speaking of old dive bars, DH and I were talking last night about the original Hog's Breath under the bridge in Fort Walton Beach. I only went once (and enjoyed it)- his eyes light up when he tells his tales....lots of memories, good times. Wish we had pictures!
