Neighborhood Electric Vehicles

Is the vocal majority on this board still vociferously opposed to Neighborhood Electric Vehicle expansion (for the last 2 miles of 30A that are NEV forbidden) on 30A as they were a couple months ago?

shocker you few seem to agree (again).

You've so soundly refuted all the arguments made in 46 legislatures, and so quickly, you'd think you have degrees in Communications.

you guys are right, these arguments will not resonate in Walton County, as they have elsewhere...

1. reduced dependece on foreign oil - "FOOOOEY" sayeth the well respected Skunkape, that's nothing we're concerned with here in South Walton - we won't be impacted here!"

2. Safety - yeah, right, I know better than the insurance actuaries, OR common sense sayeth the popular and respected member of the board GEO, it will be unsafe to lower that stretch of roadway to 35 from 45, especially with bikers within 2 feet of the road.
3. Greener - "fooey" sayeth some... we think there its questionable because you cause pollution in the production of LSVs.

Case Closed - argument are adjudged to be "Weak" by the guy with the masters in communications and seconded by several of his friends, so there is definitely no chance that those "weak" arguments, presented by this outsider are of any material consequence, like they've been in 46 F-ING Legislatures seeking to expand said usage of LSV.s

Me, I give up with you guys. I'm going to enroll at Phoenix University tomorrow for a Comms. degree.

Uhm. In earlier posts, you said 48 Legislatures. You also cited the Sierra Club, which proved false. You seem to be rapidly losing supporters that you may have never had to begin with... :idontno:

RDavies,

Do you remember when I presented the Sowal bar analogy? Sleep it off, pal.

EDIT: For the record- You are putting words in my mouth. I didn't say I know better than insurance actuaries. And I didn't say it was unsafe to lower the speed limit. I said I didn't care. I said your arguments are weak. And I said lowering the speed limit remains unnecessary and that you should just admit that your motivating factor for lobbying heavily for this is that it is fun to drive a golf cart at the beach.

The only reason I pointed out that I have a communications background is because you erroneously accused folks who disagree with your nonsense as suffering from Groupthink.

So if I follow your (attempted) logic, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, and CNN are members of a Sowal clique because they agree LSVs aren't safe to use on public roads with regular cars?

Lets stop getting so personal. All if this is still hypothetical anyway right?

We are all GUESSING on what will happen when we increase the number of LSVs on 30a. Will there be an outrageous number of fatal accidents? Would we lower the speed limit? Who knows!

I am afraid this forum has gotten severely off topic. Lets focus. How are LSV's good, and How are they bad. Does the good outweigh the bad and vice versa. To me, Yes, Good outweighs the bad. From what I've read, we have research to document the good, and we have a lot of "what ifs" to create the bad.

I'm still trying to work it out so that I can bring a LSV out to ya'll so you can see 🙂

IMO the only "good" things about a LSV on 30-A are that it gets better mileage than many SUVs and takes up less space when parked properly.

That is all.

From a traffic, infrastructure, usage, and especially safety standpoint I think they are VERY bad.

Since many cars and hybrid or electric vehicles have those same benefits WITHOUT those massive safety issues, I do not find any reason to bring all of those negatives to 30-A.

P.S. I've seen/inspected a LSV, my concerns have nothing to do with being unfamiliar with them. In fact, some of my concerns are from firsthand observation of their use. ;-)

P.P.S. This is actually a VERY focused discussion for us.

Let me let you in on a little secret. I don't care. Seriously. If the speed limit is 35 where it is currently 45 it won't bother me. If you get to drive your golf cart from Gulf Trace to get groceries I have no issue with it.

Why then (you ask)- would I continue to discuss/debate strongly taking a side? Simple- because I like to argue. And when I see weak arguments I cannot resist pointing it out.

Please-
Will one of you just be real here and take the approach that we live in a really unique area and that it would be enjoyable for residents and visitors alike if we could cart around on smaller street legal recreational vehicles when we're on 30A rather than the big SUV's we use to get our people and our stuff here from Atlanta or over to Destin.

Please-
Would one of you who stand to gain financially from the lowering of the speed limit step up and say that you own or plan on owning an LSV rental company and that it is a joy to motor from town to town along 30A. Invite locals to stop in for a free trial rental.

Please-
Would all of you stop trying to convince us that by lowering the speed limit anyone here will be safer, that we will be better stewards of the planet, that we will be better members of the Sierra Club or that we will reduce our dependence on oil. No one is buying it and no one believes the speed limit should be changed under the guise of these talking points. I bolded the one sentence in your last post that resonates.

EDIT:

BTW- You forgot about the 45MPH stretch of 30A on the far west end. People staying at Topsail are currently unable to go to legally go to Tom Thumb in an LSV.

30 A is not a closed neighborhood. It's a number of neighborhoods strung together. LSVs might be appropriate in and around some but not all of those neighborhoods. They may not be capable of inflicting the same damage as some other vehicles, but that doesn't make them safe, especially for the occupants. This article sums it up.

You are a part of an online clique, say it, it will be fun. You personally know all the people who post in agreement that LSV's shouldn't be allowed on 30A, even though they already are allowed all over 30A, except on the scant stretches with 45mph.
.

The thread linked below blows a hole in the "group think" BS!

Note the diverse variety of SoWal peeps posting in it - notably ShallowsNole (not for), AndyA (not for), Hop (leans for), etc. .......................... "group think" is a huge laugh!!
