Loved the Beave! What shows do you miss? My husband has been watching Gunsmoke reruns for several weeks now. And I was reminded of the Drill Sergeant from Gomer Pyle recently when talking about a couple graduating students who will soon be going through basic military training in Air Force and Marines.

".... There have perhaps been funnier sitcom scenes since, and certainly much louder, more frenetic ones. But has the craftsmanship ? wonderfully believable brotherly chat as a foundation; sly incongruity laid on top ? ever been bested? Doubtful. ......
That is what hits you first when you sit down with a box of ?Beaver?: television comedy was a much slower animal back then. You have to detox mentally to watch these shows, to lay aside your caffeine and BlackBerry addictions and be prepared to wait for your rewards. That bathtub scene takes almost three and a half minutes to unspool. In that time Hannah Montana could have traded six insults with her father, tripped over a couch, lost her wig, dumped two boyfriends and had a crisis involving shoes. ...,"

You're so right it was a much simpler time back then. Hannah M.--HA!

My Favorite Martian made me think of MR. ED, the talking horse. I wasn't a big fan but often watched it.
I watch more BEWITCHED now than I ever did when it was originally on.

I owe my unique sense of humor to the shows of the day....I love Lucy, Little Rascals, Green Acres, Petticoat Junction, Gilligan's Island, The Andy Griffiths Show/Mayberry RFD, My Three Sons, The Adams Family, Car 54 Where Are You, Bob Newhart Show, Carol Burnette Show, Sonny and Cher (yuk), Hogan's Heroes, The Munsters, My Favorite Martian, Star Trek, The Jetsons, Bugs Bunny/Road Runner/Foghorn Leghorn (Loony Toons), Family Affair, Smothers Brothers, Dukes of Hazzard, Ed Sullivan Show, Bob Newhart Show, WKRP in Cincinatti, etc., etc., etc.
I continue to hone my humor, along with my kids, by watching the better shows of today.....Wizards of Waverly Place, Phineas and Ferb, The Suite Life, The Proud Family, Shaun the Sheep, iCarly, Good Luck Charlie, Penguins of Madagascar, etc., etc., etc.
Add to that every stand-up comedy show within eyesight......Who's Line is It?, Stand-up Stand-up, VH1 Stand-Up, etc., and there you have it.
Times do change, but funny is eternal!

I think I've got 10 more years before my shows are "retro".

For me, it was the DIck Van Dyke show.
I was very young (maybe 5 or 6) but I knew that I loved Laura Petrie in those tight pedal pushers. (I didn't quite understand why at the time, but I definitely liked her.)
Plus the show was funny. I now have them all on DVD.
The theme song is my ringtone for when the Missus calls me from home too.

DANG!....I knew I missed one (or more)! If it was on, I saw it....I still don't understand how I did that and still managed to spend so much time wandering the woods, swimming, fishing, climbing trees, playing with the neighbor kids, and doing chores....

Two shows had me planted in front of my TV on Friday nights as a youngster. One was Johnny Quest at 7:30 and the Wild Wild West at 8:00.
Of course that was back before they moved primetime from 7:30 to 8:00 in 1971.

Love that Pat Boone 'doo! I bet it took hours to get each hair individually aligned to perfection.
I remember his elevator boots....he was one of the bigger "little people" you know?!Beach Fanatic
Not to gross out Happy2BeMe, but I loved the Sonny & Cher show. I'm pretty sure that anticipating seeing Cher's (Bob Mackie) costumes each week were part of what led me into a career in the fashion industry.
Yesssss. Robert Conrad in the WWWest was such a hottie!

Notice that I said that I watched Sonny and Cher.....they were so bad that they were good. To be honest, I am/was probably as big a doof as Sonny was! And we had the same taste in women.....two legs.

Speaking of two legs, does anyone remember the name of the show that Julie Newmar was on?(way, way back when) She had two legs and all the assessories to go with them.

Gilligan's Island at the top of my list, next Andy Griffith.....favorite character was Barney Fife. M*A*S*H and Hogan's Heroes were funny, but a little too mature for me, then. I love Leave It To Beaver, too. For late 70's, anyone like The Love Boat and Dallas?
On the detective shows, I always really liked the high speed chases in the parking garages.
And, drum roll, please......................

I've been streaming SOAP on Netflix, love it!
Happy Days, Laverne & Shirley, Mork & Mindy, Three's Company, Welcome Back Kotter, Charlie's Angels, were all favorites... and I never missed an episode of Little House on the Prairie.
The Love Boat and Fantasy Island on Saturday nights...
It was always a good night when I could talk my mom into letting me stay up to watch M*A*S*H at 10PM, love that show.
All in the Family is another one I remember watching with my Dad, I need to see if I can stream that too...
