Conch Out in Progress

Conch Out is being prepped for her color job starting next week. We are sooooo excited! The painter is going to do the front facade under the decks so I can see the palette when I am down. Butter and Marty have to stay home in CA and chase balls and build things, respectively. We will also fetch the old Conch Out sign, which has received its own facelift by a local artist. So if any of you wonder past Conch Out with a digital gizmo, I sure would appreciate a posting on how the facade is looking.

As for the wine and food pairing, you guys know who you are. We will be down for two weeks beginning October 6 and this is when we envision having this shindig. How many of you will be at South Walton then? If you will send a PM, I would love to mail invitations. Thanks to all for so many wonderful suggestions. I honestly think that we ended up with a hybrid from the collection of ideas, one that will be reflective of the most beautiful of the natural elements of our beach community. And the inside will remain the color of sunshine, which we love to awake to. There is nothing in the world like waking up to a big sunny room punctuated by beautiful Gulf views, floating downstairs to a pot of freshly brewed java that one can enjoy in a rocker out on the deck. How do you take your coffee, ma'am? With porpoises and Monarch butterflies, thank you! Ya gotta love it!

I'm old school and don't own a digital camera. It's my way of helping the economy by keeping sales up at Kodak. I am going to check the paint job at the end of May when we are at the beach. Can't wait to see it. How excitin! Hope you love the finished product, it sounds lovely.

I am so excited about getting down to the beach later this week, also about seeing Conch Out's new colors. The painter will do the French doors and stain the decks last and I think that will be the most dramatic change. The French doors will be a dark blue/green called Aruba blue. It is the same color as the water at the Destin bridge. The decks will be stained a light mahogany because the teal shade tends to turn yellow in direct sunlight. And the old Conch Out sign (Conch Out #1 was a Butler cottage that was washed away during Opal) is ready to hang when the paint is dry. We wanted to have this work done last year, but then the storms started to come... 😱

Sunshine today in the Napa Valley and it is a most welcome sight. The wisteria has just started to bloom and it made me so sad to think all the beautiful lavender blossoms would be knocked onto the ground. When they fall naturally onto the rock walkway below the pergola, you can walk through and smell the creeping thyme growing between the rocks and see a carpet of lavender beneath your feet...a sensual trip in the garden. As much as we enjoy the garden, one of the nicest things about the beach house is no yard or landscaping to speak of...just white sand and dunes and beach grass. See you all soon!

Thanks for the update on Conch Out progress, SJ. The painters have the boom in the back of the house now. They will stain the decks and the pool fencing last. Oh, what some new paint can do for all of us!

You're breaking my heart with these gorgeous beach shots. I am still in withdrawal from the last visit, even though spring is lovely here. When I left the Valley, it had been raining for 43 days and everything was so soggy. Returned to grapes and olives budding, native grasses sending up these golden plumes, herbs flowering, and the roses all blooming...and the Oldfords sneezing their heads off! Worth it, though.

We are already planning for October. Will be eager to hear what your chef friend thinks about a SoWal chef's gig. We are talking with Jeffrey on Monday. Maybe they could cook together one night? That would be fun. I am having fun with various menus and wine choices. Look for another post soon.

Believe me Cork...you would have seen me if I were still there!!! One of the coolest things happened when Mr. K and I had finished our last lunch at D & K's, I saw Donna pull up to Conch Out and walked over to chat!!!! Those were the days...I can't believe I just left a week ago!!!

Sueshore, that is the true Grayton Beach. Story: Early on New Year's Eve, we walked down on the beach to take our Christmas tree to one of the bonfires. A guy I had chatted with here and there on the beach all week (from Atlanta) was there, so I told him I'd like to meet his wife. He was holding the trees up, so pointed at a woman on the opposite side of the bonfire. Said to go over and introduce myself, that her name was AA. I looked over and told him, "I don't need to introduce myself, because I'm related to AA." He would NOT believe me, until I told him that we grew up together in DeFuniak and her mother, J. taught me piano for more than 10 years. He was floored, but that is what our beaches have always been all about...a small community of people who love them. I had not seen AA in over 35 years. But neither of us was surprised.

Get used to it, girl, because everybody knows YOU! :clap_1:
