Yes and it was REALLY bad.

Not weekly renters, but long term ... they completely destroyed the inside of the house (and septic tank) over three months, and then thankfully disappeared. Not something I expected from a nice, retired military couple. You never really can get rid of the smell of cat urine :-(

How much time you got?

Ask gotothebeachmom (Sheila).

I am too stressed to tell all of my stories.
Let's just say that some renter between May 25 and June 20 let their kids use our expensive blinds as playground equipment. Most of the metal clips at the bottom of the blinds on the third floor are gone. WTF? FU for disparaging our home, a-holes!

Is that it? You got off easy........
The one I really like is the check out day. The guest did not check out, did not pack, etc and they were nowhere to be found until the following day, on 4th of July weekend.

OMG! That's awful!Did you have other guests that couldn't check in because of this? -if so I think I would have gotten the cleaning service to put all of their stuff in garbage bags and take it to their housekeeping office for pickup

Yes, it bumped another guest. No one would go in and pack up their stuff, me included. Would you? liability, etc. No to mention just plain creepy. Anyway...they paid for the following week...it took a while to get the $$$, but persistance prevailed.

Never heard of such a thing happening like this. Any lawyers out there? These people had a contract to vacate the premises by a certain time, right? I've been known to punch people out for doing stuff to me that was just plain wrong, so I would have been mad enough that I would have put on gloves and bagged it all up. Remember, I beat on hoods.

My favorite is still the year when all the housekeepers quit 4th of July weekend, and we all went out to clean. A guest tried to check in early, and his unit was not yet ready, and he was trying to give us a hard time about it--SeagroveGirl came in, hot and sweaty, carrying a mop bucket and a squeegee, and said "Can I help you in some way?" and he responded by saying, "Yeah, you can get back out there and clean some more units!"

:boxing:Then there were the ones who hid out in the unit all week, not paying their bill and when one of our (sweet, grandmotherly) employees went out to the unit to check on them, they answered the door stark naked and yelled at her for interrupting...

Seagrovegirl glad you got your revenge by making them pay for the next week's rental. A lot more civilized than my solution.

The attempt to stay another day would have had us calling the cops. Have the cops stand there and watch as you pack up their stuff. Then charge them an extra clean fee and storage. That's just beyond shady to me.
My favorite were the people that were waiting at the front door July 4th weekend tapping their feet when we arrived. They demanded entry since they had already bought groceries. We explained that as soon as the people still legally occupying the residence left we would clean it and what would be a good number to call. They finally staked out the house and were sitting in front of it calling every 30 minutes to ask if it was ready yet. Needless to say this is a very easy way to get your house moved to the end of the list.
At one point the grandmother called and asked what she was supposed to do as her grand kids were running in the street. I had no idea the house was on a cul-de-sac and calmly stated that she should go get them out of the road.

Wow, there's some crazies out there! Last Saturday I was bummed that we didn't find the time to sweep & mop the floors before we left (and they had maids coming to clean, but I just felt bad!).

Good for you, you're the guest that housekeeping would fight over.

It's definitely a two way street.
